FlacoAlto (3759) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - AUG 23, 2007
Sampled on tap at the First Annual Stone Sour Fest, July 2007
At first this beer smells quite pronouncedly fruity, but in a non-descript sort of way, but then a definite raspberry character starts to come through. The raspberry does not get obnoxious like I find in many a raspberry flavored brew. The beer is a hazy, amber / brown color with a minuscule, ring-like and a few sparse islands of amber froth of a head. Underneath the tartness & fruit aromatics is a real, meaty, malt character; you really have to dig for this, but when you do it is quite noticeable with substantial notes of caramel and malt. There is an interesting herbal note here that is reminiscent of caraway and/or celery seed & savory. This really might just be the raspberry seed / skin notes (assuming whole fruit was used). The beer also has a lightly sweet aromatic bent to it.

The taste is somewhat sweet, but is still amazingly drinkable (once again thank the tartness for making this beer quaffable). This is fairly malty, though not as distinctively accented as the aroma was. Flavors of generic berries, definite raspberries and a light lactic acid character are noticeable. The raspberry flavors are certainly the dominant character in the flavor, though again it is not in an overwhelming manner. This is quite a bit more enjoyable than I expected.

Sampled during the First Annual Stone Sour Fest. Reddish brown with tight small white head. Sour aromas, but not acidic. Floras flavors were sweet. I did not pick up the alcohol as much as others seemed to. Berry-like flavors on the finish with some earthy notes. I liked it.

On tap at Stone. Dark brown with off-white head. Good sour fruit and eucalyptus aroma. Creamy palate, earthy woody and sour taste, fruity sweetness, vanilla and alcohol finish.

Sampled at the 1st annual Stone Sour Festival 2007. Although this one fell a it short on flavor it was still quite nice. The alcohol did come through and take over.

Draft-7th brew of Stone 1st Annual Sour Festival, July 22nd 2007. Shared this cool day very mellow day with bikesandbeer, wetherel, westsidethreat, padrefan, fordest, denverlogan and many others. Pours dark brown with a tan ring of a head. Nose is light with a rassy and slightly tarrt. The taste is raspberry and pungent with too much alcohol noticeable in my opinion, I know denver and I disagree, this fell short for me because the alcohol came through too much and ruined a lot of it for me.

Tried from tap at Stone’s 1st Annual Sour Beer Tasting. Dark raspbeery amber color. Nice raspberry aroma, but flavor is a little off. I don’t know what it was. My palate was dying at this point. Anyway, not my favorite.

Brown with a lovely raspberry and rich malt aroma and taste. Very flavorful and smooth with the big alcolhol barely noticeable. Rich malts, full body, some raspberry notes but not very sour. Tasted at the Stone Sour beer fest.
