3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber (2010 reserve). Pours black with minimal head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, chocolate and licorice. Flavor is all of the above with some booze. A little boozy but a great stout nevertheless.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft pour at Whip In. Pours pitch black with a thin, dark khaki head. The lacing is large and soapy, covering the entirety of the inner glass. Mild carbonation. Aromas of malt, coffee, licorice, molasses, faint oak. Full bodied with a great palate. Licorice and a mild bourbon sweetness before a long, bitter malty finish. Creamy mouthfeel that offers a sweeter flavor after several swigs, more licorice and malt as the bitterness fades. The bourbon is present but reserved. Awesome beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

One of the best beer ever.
This is the god of imperial stout.
If you see this beer in your market you have to buy, everything is perfect on it.
When you drink, first you feel the dark malt and later you feel a flavor of licor, that is incredible

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap from the Deschutes Brewpub in Portland. On nitro. Another on CO2. Ahhh. This is one interesting beer. It came black as night with a slight head, but the lacing on the glass was huge and adhered to the glass until finished. Aroma of chocolate and molasses and licorice. Flavors similar, but this is where it was more interesting. At first, the roasted and dark chocolate flavors dominated, followed by a significant bitterness at the back of the tongue - not overpowering, just very nice but definitely there. Full flavors. Toward the end of the glass, the flavor profile seemed to be more sweet than at first, but still with the constant bitterness not quite in the background. Very very nice. Bourbon flavors were present but not overpowering. A well-balanced masterpiece of a beer. I’d sure like to find a bottle and bring it home to age for another year, but am happy to settle for a glass or two with a friend at the pub, seated in front of the fireplace. This was worth the drive, and I’ll do it again not too far in the future.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at naked city. At first a bit overwhelming. Smoke, coffee, bitterness, alcohol, soy sauce. Once you adjust this is delicious. Super rich coffee notes and dark chocolate. Reminds me of Expedition stout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle, 2012 edition, bought in L.A., at home. Pitch black color, thick brown head, which doesn’t last very long, thin layer retention. Aroma’s of hard roasted malts, ground coffee, bit of wood (?), light berries. Retronasal there’s a bit more (red) fruit. Flavor is light to moderate sweet, and the roast gives it a bit of acidity and bitterness. Alcohol feel is not too strong. Medium bodied - would be nice if it had been a bit fuller. Finishes with roast, ash, bitter. Lovely!
