4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber received in trade. Thank you Adnielsen! Pours oily pitch black with a small creamy dark chocolate brown head that leaves some thick lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and surprisingly subtle with roasted malts, sweetened dark roast coffee, vanilla fudge, coconut, fresh oak, raisins, sweet liquorice candy, bourbon, bitter chocolate, alcohol, caramel and hints of citrus zest. Taste is sweet, bitter and tiny sour with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, moist mineral-rich soil, pumpernickel bread, orange zest, pine, resinous wood, vanilla fudge, burnt cookies, coconut, charred wood and toffee. Mouthfeel is round, tiny boozy, tiny astringent and full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, resinous wood, vanilla fudge, burnt cookies, bitter chocolate, raisins, pine and toffee. A bit rough around the edges but still very tasty.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
22oz bottle (2013 reserve) with a best after date of 8/16/2014.
Appearance: Black and opaque with a tan head. Pours thick out of the bottle.
Aroma: Chocolate, coffee, vanilla, roasted malt, molasses, licorice, oak, figs, raisins, tobacco and a little wine character.
Taste: Dark chocolate, silky vanilla, black coffee, sweet molasses, figs, some bourbon, licorice and a little smokiness.
Palate: Medium-full bodied, very smooth, light carbonation and finishes with dark chocolate.
Overall: Great imperial stout. The licorice and wine comes out as the beer warms and provides a character rare in other stouts. Fantastic beer all around.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
22oz bottle = 2012 vintage - pours black with dark mocha head. Strong aromas of vanilla , bourbon, licorice , molasses, figs, raisins, just a lot going on here. The taste gets even more complex, all of the above with some added sweetness , exactly as advertised ... molasses and licorice. Very complex brew... I will enjoy every ounce of it .

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2010 vintage. Pours a dark black, minimal mocha colored head, minimal lacing. Aromas of rich malted cocoa, black licorice, dry oak and a slight amount of bourbon. Taste was very rich, but very balanced. Distinct flavors of licorice/anise, tobacco and leather that counterbalance a rather sticky body, loaded with molasses. Finishes nicely with a harmony of the barrels providing one final kick of oak and bourbon.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle. 2011 variety. The pour is jet black with a thin film of dark mocha head that fades to a small ring and no lacing. The aroma is mostly roasted malt licorice with a light bourbon presence and minimal vanilla tendencies. The flavor is a touch boozy with a solid licorice and roasted malt base. There is again a little bit of vanilla and a light cocoa presence which helps. The mouth feel is a little light, but the carbonation helps a velvety complexion and lingeringly dry mouthfeel that is definitely a little bitter like a good stout should be.
