2012. Black pour with a dense lasting brown head. Aroma is chocolate, wood, and licorice. Taste is cocoa, coffee, dark fruits, licorice, molasses, and alcohol. Very warm on the way down. Carbonation is a little more prickly than expected. Viscous and sticky on the palate. Nice burly stout.

2010 vintage. Shared with EricTeusink. This bottle is from my very first RB trade. Been holding onto this bad boy, getting advice on when to pop. The result was an extremely mellowed out brew, that did show a hint of age, but it was not a detractor. Thick black pour with ample dark mocha head. The taste showed mellow bourbon that was nicely intergrated with the molasses, and the licorice was just barely a character. Dark fruits swirled with a heavy dose of dark chocolate. Decadent. I would advice on drinking now.

stoutnick (386) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - APR 10, 2014
2013 vintage bottle at Northern Taproom, Chicago. Black black oily with big foam head. Aroma is licorice and booze. Taste is very complex and chaotic - vanilla, aniseed, heavy body (oak?), tobacco, leather. Lots of dark flavours with a strong abv in the mix. Bitter finish, tannins and syrupy. Overall, this one is too much for me. Astringently serious. Not so much fun to drink. Functions like a lecture on beer.

Great brew with strong oak on the nose and in the taste. I recommend aging this beer to soften it. It is complex and lovely. Drink it.

22oz bottle (2012 vintage) pours dark black brown with 2 finger tan head. Nose is rich earthy dark fruits, roasty coffee, dark chocolate, oak, subtle wine. Taste is creamy rich bitter chocolate, bourbon, licorice, plum, faint berries, wood, cream. Finish is bitter roasty malt, hershey bar, dark fruits, bourbon. Decadent and delicious.

Aromas of vanilla, licorice and booze. Taste follows nose with a hint of molasses. Slick mouthfeel with good carbonation. Very good.

Brandman (1992) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 26, 2014
2010 reserve. Oil black body, light brown head that is gone fast. Aroma has lots of going on: wine, bourbon, chocolate, liqourice, plum, more sweet bourbon and some tobacco. There is very light almost no taste at all in the beginning, but it grows fast. The tobacco, bourbon and some roasted grainy malts come aftewards. Very velvety and smooth. Rich ashy and alcohol is felt, not tasted. Flavour has less fruity and winey charasteristics than aroma. Very complex and quite extraordinary.

22 oz bottle. 2010 Reserve. Best after 11/15/11.
From a trade with Rosebud butternuts. Huge thanks to Eric! My rating #6000.

Pitch black colour with a tiny tan head. Roasted malt, lots of malty sweetness, molasses, mild alcohol, whiskey and red wine notes and mild chocolate in the aroma. The flavour is... quite incredible. Roasted malt, dryness, sweetness, molasses, alcohol, mild smoke, whiskey, bitterness and sugary sweetness to name a few flavours. Amazing richness and smoothness. Warms nicely. 11% is present in a very positive way. Pleasant.

2011 version on tap at Urge. Pours a pitch black with a one finger khaki head with nice lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, licorice, molasses, coffee, bakers coco, dark fruits, some oaked whiskey, and some faint booze. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma but is even smoother and has almost no noticeable booze. Has a full body with a oily, creamy mouthfeel, and a moderately bitter, long, lingering finish. Overall, a fantastic world class stout that is very complex and amazingly smooth after three years of being aged.

Tap, pours black with a tan head. Sweet tasting with chocolate, vanilla, and molasses. The Bourbon is noticeable but not overpowering. Nicely balanced and very tasty.
