4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Popped the cork on a bottle of 2009 on 7/19/2013. Aged very nicely and the alcohol has mellowed in intensity. A slight lacto type character present, due to the barrels maybe? Otherwise very nice treat.
Leave your pretensions at the door.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2014 Bottle. Pours dark opaque black with large, fluffy, medium brown colored head that sits there like chocolate mouse before it diminishes to a small covering. Aroma has sharp vinous, bourbon notes at first with smooth caramel mocha behind it. Flavor has huge cocoa, coffee malts, balanced with a light bitter bite. Subtle bourbon is evident in the finish & aftertaste, but just enough to round it out and not too intense. Slightly oily mouthfeel, bubbly. Pretty pricey at $15/22oz though.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft at Good Dog. Pitch black pour with a tight creamy brown head. Good amount of lace. Thick, rich and dark. Big cocoa, coffee and liquorice flavors. Additional notes of tobacco, molasses, peppercorns, black leather and charcoal grill. Feels a bit boozy up front but has such an abundance of wood tannins such that it finishes smooth and dry. Gigantic and fantastic!

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
On tap at the Heimat House. 2014 variety was black as night with a sweet liquorice and molasses finish. At 11% ABV you barley notice it. Incredible beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2011 on draft at Aces and Ales in Las Vegas. Small 3oz flight pour. Pours an opaque nearly black thickness with a very lasting mocha head. Aroma is a combination of anise, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, and Brazil nuts. The taste is incredible with dark chocolate, anise, roasted nuts, coffee, and wood barrels. Somewhat booze finish, but not overdone. Medium full body, well carbed. Very good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Busters. The 2011 variety. Snifter glass. Deep black color with frothy head. Intimidating appearance. Aroma has chocolate elements and a freshness not expected. Some roasted malt notes too. Reminds me of the really good chocolate influenced stouts. The bitterness is well hidden...sweetness takes center stage. Incredibly smooth and rich. Nice finish...with warming alcohol presence. Stronger alcohol due to the aging...definitely appreciated. Enjoyable option.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a deep dark chocolate head. Loads of chocolate, licorice, star anise, and a good amount of molasses. The barrels it was aged in are noticeable but not so apparently and is really well hidden. Love it.
