Bottled. Pitch black colour, small beigeish brown colour. Aroma is wooden, licoriceish, dark dry fruity along with coffee and roasted malts. Flavour is a bit roasted, quite caramel malty, licoriceish, alcoholic as well as mildly sweet wooden notes being in the background. A wellbalanced imperial stout.

Bottled at Petalax Beer Festival. Pitch black, firm dark brown head. Sweet and full bodied with tarry licorice and syrupy coffee. Almost completely dominated by sugar and syrup. The oak os in balanced levels, but the sweetness not. It gets inky with crude oil and tar, feels sticky and messy. I quite adore most of Deschutes beers, this is just, well not good.

Opaque black beer, big tan head. Palate is surprisingly light. Nice dark malt - smooth with a trace of coffee. Mild lactose cream. Just a trace of oak and even less of bourbon. A whisper of fruit. Semi dry smooth finish that is almost minty fresh. Pinch of spice. Not a shouty RIS but pretty elegant and balanced. Very drinkable.

The aroma blends well cookies and caffelatte; roasted malt; lightly breadish too. The body structure seems to be less interesting than 2 years ago, but still with an excellent chocolate flavor, roasted malt, strong bitterness and a hint of liquorice and vanilla. Excellent.

Black night color; big creamy head, beige, leaving a nice lace while reducing. Perfect aroma of milky coffee, coffee truffles, barley coffee (a substitute for real coffee), vanilla icecream. Silky and seducing body; strong roasted malt flavor, chocolate and quite evident liquorice, light vanilla; salty, thick; the final is powerful, bitter, with strong roasted malt presence and even saltier; light acidity from the roasted malt; there is a comfortable alcohol warmth. Mighty. It deserves the appreciation.
