4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
22oz bottle shared during #bottlecherwednesday at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. Poured into a tulip. This beer is black, black, black - opaque and unyielding. A two-finger brown head forms before collapsing to a film and leaves patches of lace in the process. More lace rings are deposited on the glass during the session. The aroma is as advertised, but deliciously so - roasted malt, unsweetened chocolate, molasses, oak, anise, coffee, and barrel notes of vanilla and bourbon. Taste opens up with roasted malt sweetness, molasses, coffee, anise, and vanilla. Some bitterness creeps through on the finish featuring oak, coffee grounds, a little citrus hop bite, keeping the surge of sweetness from washing out everything else. Only trace alcohol flavors come through, surprisingly. Quite full bodied, thick, creamy, silky slick texture, soft carbonation, drying and warming on the finish. Delicious.

Very nice indeed. Pours black with a tan head. The aroma is lovely with chocolate, sweet malt, a hint of licorice and caramel. The flavor is similar with everything coming together quite well.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle cheers to Andrew and Beau. The nose on this is super complex. I was expecting bourbon over load but the cherry and wine tart focus in this is superb. Tarty dark chocolate and very woody stuff. The bourbon adds a vanilla element but that’s overshadowed by the dark cherries and mild tart throughout. Kind of tannin like. Liquorice is definitely in your face. Complexity is there but not quite the finesse of everything coming together. Still very good

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an opaque black with a big tan head that leaves a lot of lacing. Wonderful aromas and flavors of licorice, cherry, chocolate, smoked nuts and just a hint of bourbon/alcohol. Full bodied and silky smooth. Awesome beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2013 bottle. Black with a tan head that fades but laces very well. Intense roasted malt aroma with mocha, licorice, dark berries, molasses, oak. Oily, lowish carbonation, quite silky. Lots of bittersweet chocolate, roast is fairly heavy but not as full on as suggested by the smell. Berries have a touch of sourness about them. Bourbon notes peek out but beer is _just_ about driving the show, although the fruit and barrel treatments gain prominence after a while. Bitter and quite oaky at the end. A slow drinker but not overly boozy. Excellent - just lacks a bit of inviting softness and seems slightly contrived. But excellent. Best after today apparently, so mayhap there’s a timezone issue.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours completely opaque black with a dark tan head good lacing. Aroma of cherry, dark chocolate, licorice, umami, nuts and an ashy roastiness. Taste of molasses, dark chocolate, cherry, leather, a nuttiness, oak, vanilla and an ashy char. Finishes dry with a roasty bitterness. Mouthfeel is oily with a light/ medium body and low carbonation. An excellent stout with so much flavor.
