aroma is soft chocolates, ganache, ground nuts, candied pecans, earth. appearance is dead opaque, tar. fudge tinged wisps lace the surface and create a similar ring around. flavor is cocoa upfront, largely unsweetened with pleasant bitterness, booze sweeps in briefly with a lightning strike. wood is known but does not press obtrusively. chocolate turtles, extreme nuttiness at work. palate is medium for style, thin upfront but coating with oily attack in the end.

Alright, itís about time I finally sit down and rate this. I wanted to find this on draft for a while, and had the worst of luck, until now. Poured into a growler. Pours a thick black with a dark brown head. Toasty, slightly boozy oak front aroma. Rich flavor with a huge roasted finish. Picking up some of the sweet licorice flavor as well. Decently smooth oak and chocolate finish. I donít know. This beer is great, I enjoy it as a sipper. Not quite the beer I run out of my way to track it down, but if it falls to me again, I will gladly give this beer another go. Sum this beer up in one word? Iíd say solid.

A nice, smooth, medium-full bodied Imperial Stout. Nice sweet oakiness, bitter chocolate, faint leafy hops, molasses and some Sambuca anise round it out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of the smoothest bourbon battered beers I have ever had. Not overly sweet and heavy. Slightly chocolatey and coffe. Pours black with a tan head. Incredible beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 Bottle. Pours dark opaque black with large, fluffy, medium brown colored head that sits there like chocolate mouse before it diminishes to a small covering. Aroma has sharp vinous, bourbon notes at first with smooth caramel mocha behind it. Flavor has huge cocoa, coffee malts, balanced with a light bitter bite. Subtle bourbon is evident in the finish & aftertaste, but just enough to round it out and not too intense. Slightly oily mouthfeel, bubbly. Pretty pricey at $15/22oz though.

Draft at Good Dog. Pitch black pour with a tight creamy brown head. Good amount of lace. Thick, rich and dark. Big cocoa, coffee and liquorice flavors. Additional notes of tobacco, molasses, peppercorns, black leather and charcoal grill. Feels a bit boozy up front but has such an abundance of wood tannins such that it finishes smooth and dry. Gigantic and fantastic!
