UPDATED: DEC 7, 2015 re-rate 12/15 from growler (first growler!) Saw this at a local growler station and had been wanting to try again, so this was fresh. aroma and taste different at different temps - nose when warm had smoke and wood - really niiiiice!. Taste was best in between cold and room temp - roasted malt, stout stuff - the alcohol/hop combo was a little too much for me (why I normally prefer an aged stout). complex beer.......kept rate at 3.8 very good stout but plenty others I prefer over this one... ....... 2010 bottle; not sure how/where I got this one - disappointed by nose - wine very strong at first followed by alcohol; as bottle warmed I got some chocolate but nothing else?? beautiful oil black pour. mouthfell full and thick. Taste was a little all over the place - strong carbonation, some alcohol; chocolate and slight bitterness - not sure that this pulled together a little dissapointed considering the hype.

2015 reserve poured into a wineglass showing pitch black and no head. The nose shows a big mix of all the elements - the oak, the wine, roasted malts, and chocolate. The palate is surprisingly light bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of light cherries, roasted malts, molasses, and subtle vanilla. Big dark burnt espresso bitterness on the end. Complex but slightly unharmonious; needs more time to age and settle.

Wow. 22 oz bomber split with Marc and JoJo at CC. Pours black, nice tan, clingy head. Aroma of molasses, licorice, Bakers chocolate, vanilla bean, wood, roast, slight char, mellow coffee notes. Taste is a fantastic potpourri of bittersweet chocolate, treacle, anise, vanilla, bourbon, oak, and espresso. Mouthfeel is rich and full; thick without being chewy, smooth. Absolutely fantastic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
