COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The stoic malt beverage brewed with pomegranate with 16.5% being aged in oak wine barrels and 16.5% being aged in oak rye whiskey barrels.

(#54) 22oz bottle bought in Dec 11’. Poured into tulip. Appearance: Golden amber with a haze. Some initial head, white with not much lacing. Aroma: Sweet fruits. Cherries, pomegranates, grapes, peaches, pears. Rye whiskey notes hidden well in the back. Honey. Buttery. Taste: Sweet malt, then a little tartness/sourness from pomegranate. Clove, banana, and caramel flavors coming through. Palate: Med bodied. Smooth. Pretty good carbonation. Sour aftertaste lingering. Overall: It’s a delicious Quad. I might buy another bottle if it came around. Glad to have tried it.

Had a few years back when it came out, once in bottle, once on tap. Was pretty good, don’t really remember being too WOW’d or anything though.

750. Interesting brew form these guys that I still haven’t tried. Dark and fruity, some spice, lighter on the oakiness nad rye whiskey.

Aroma gives hints of dark fruit, spice and some spirits/ alcohol. Appearance is much lighter than I expected from a "quad." Beautiful, crystal clear, ruby-gold. Flavor is rich. Dark fruit, cherries, subtly women in with flavors reminiscent of wine & spirits. Body is medium, and fairly crisp, but the finish hangs on the tongue more and the 11% alcohol can be felt as nice warmth in the throat, though the beer is definitely very drinkable for 11%. A very complex, unique and enjoyable brew.

Bottle. Hazy copper/orange pour with a slight ring of white foam. Smells like a wine/whiskey melange with some darker fruit malts lurking in the background. Taste is fruity grape with sharper whiskey notes and heavier malt followed by dry, alcohol vapors. Relatively clean mouthfeel. Unique and odd.

Alright, here it goes. A: pours a copper ale with a single finger of white foam. These suds fall quickly to a thin and broken sheet of the same. Spotty lacing. Excellent clarity. S: Belgian yeast, candy sugar, lead, maybe a raspberry tone. Definitely can smell the rye whiskey. Not getting the pomegranate. T: Again, yeast, then some tartness and spiciness (rye like). Having a hard time placing a finger on the other fine flavors, but none is particularly dominant or appealing. M: Medium on thin body with waaayyy too much carb. Not smooth, doesn’t allow me to really enjoy the flavors, keeps my tongue busy. O: I’m very disappointed with the beer as a whole. The yeast is too dominant to allow for the other flavors to shine appropriately. It, as is well known, does not flow with the typical Quad format, and is more like a tripel for me honestly. The yeast gives that chemical, clove on coriander tone. I will not be purchasing another bottle of this unless a trader of mine wants some. Serving type: bottle 09-16-2011

The beer pours decent with a solid golden straw/orange with a mild white ring of head, and no lacing on the glass. The beer smells decent with a prominent fruity nose and a yeasty finish. The taste is decent with a sweet fruity taste and a yeasty finish. The mouthfeel is average as the beer was okay carbonated and the taste fruity and better. Overall, an above average quad...nothing better than I can get from Ommmegang.

22oz bottle. Pours clear chestnut amber, color with a half inch of fizzy, light khaki head that disapates quickly. Aroma is pomegrenate, rye, light whiskey and oak. Taste begins with a syrupy flavor, some pomegranate, white grapes, hint at booze, rye and vanilla on the finish. The finish is dry and boozy, leaving a chalky film on the palate. Full bodied and syrupy with fizzy carbonation.

Pour from bomber at Monk's Cafe SF. Deep orange with thin lasting white head. Big whiskey hit in the aroma - quite fruity, cognac-esque - plenty of dark vinous berries in there too. Big sweet caramel hit. Bit of a harsh booze note. Taste gives booze up front, mellowing out into plenty of light figgy stuff, blackberry and strawberry, vanilla, bourbon, lighter tropical fruit, some melon. Mad stuff going on here. Big sweet booze note to finish, followed by sweet dark fruits and residual sweet bourbon. Big, boozy, but intriguing - i can imagine people with a sweet tooth would really get this, but it's a little too saccharin for my palate. Tasty and interesting stuff nonetheless.

Yeast takes center stage again, pushing past all the other goings-on to provide light banana and spicy earth notes. Pomegranate is much more noticeable and serves the beer well with it’s underlying wine characteristics. Sweet white grape and warm, boozy alcohol immediately follow and segue into the caramel-malty finish.
