On tap a Global Brew. Pours a hazy amber/orange with a thin off white head. aroma is treckle sweet with some fruit. Taste is sweet lightly toasted malt, bread dough, alcohol, and assorted light dried fruit (apricots, peaches, pears). A bit cloyingly sweet, but a good Quad.

Draft at craft ale house. Pours clear golden with a small white head. The aroma has a lot of dark fruit and vinegar. The taste is tart, dark fruit, brown sugar. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of tropical fruit, citrus, floral notes, light caramel, malt. Tastes of dark fruit, toffee, plums, malt, caramel, light booze. Medium body with a dry and warm finish.

On tap at Dutchís. Pours a clear orange amber color, a bit more pale than I remember quads being. Like La Trappe quad -colored (which is coincidentally the last quad I had -- maybe Iím remembering the color of quads wrong). Thin off-white head, leaving some loose ropes of lace. Caramel, pomegranate up front, some sweet bready malt. Get some nice mild tannic and rye whiskey influence. Itís subtle, but there. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, some nice light warmth. Bigger body. Smooth. kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Mildly slick. Solid. Not sickly sweet or anything, easy-drinking enough for this hot/humid day. Just doesnít match the complexity and body of my favorite quads.

Clear pale amber color with a white head. Big Belgian nose and taste, with some nice wine oak and whiskey character. Big with a warm finish.

Bottle (22oz $15.00): (2015 vintage) Light amber with white head. Definitely a Belgian taste. Can also taste the wine barrel aging but not so much the whiskey barrel aging. Good beer, but preferred the NOT THE STOIC.

Glass shared by Eugene. Thanks! A: Orange body, creme color head. N: Toffee, some acetone, biscuit, prune, peppercorn. More of the sweet malts over the top, a touch of fruit. Not much whiskey as is Deschutesí wont in these blends. T: Sweet; light spiciness. M: Medium body, light alcohol, appropriate level of carbonation. O: Well, I missed my chance to label this an unmitigated disaster. The first batch was just wretched, but this is much better even if itís still not in the same realm as Quad.

Sampler at the Portland brewpub. Pours copper/amber with a small head. Aroma of spicy yeast, some whiskey and wine and oak, caramel and pale malts, light notes of EtOH, and some sweetness. Flavor the same with a nice blend. Average texture. A really cool quad.

22 oz bomber, poured into an oversized wine glass at ~50 degrees F. Appearance: Pours a brilliant, clear amber, forming no head, with no bubbles anywhere to be seen and thus, no lacing. At all. Smell: Candi sugar and caramel, twined around a mixture of subtle fruits, dark and vinous. Taste: Opens with sugars and caramel, with a supporting chorus of raisin and cherry, all of which remain strong through the entire tasting process. Some faint grape and berry whispers along the edges here and there, and thereís a touch of herbs and spice as well. A mild tinge of hardwood, barely perceptible, meanders through the beer as well. Mouthfeel: Slick, and on the lighter side of medium-bodied. This is also not as sticky as one might expect, given the style and the sweetness. Overall: Not a bad example of the style - this is an 11% beer that completely disguises the ABV, and almost encourages quaffing quickly via the sweetness and the light body. That being said, I donít know that the various stages of barrel-aging mentioned on the label necessarily added much complexity not already found in other quad/BSDA examples. I donít regret this purchase by any stretch of the imagination, but at the same time, at this price point, I donít know that I would buy this beer again.
