Had this one one tap at the Bend brewpub in August 2009. The wait staff let us know that this was one of a few rotating black IPA’s, with one eventually to get a larger release.
The beer was a dark and rich black with a decent-sized head in the smaller sample glass that it was poured into. The smell was quite hoppy, with what I would describe as pine being the dominant hop note. A touch of darkened malt to fill out the bill. The brew itself was quite hoppy and resinous, filling the mouth with a prickliness alongside its medium mouthfeel and slight alcohol presence. Overall, quite drinkable.
