on nitro (boo!) 7/22/10
orange/brown shade of black with a solid sponge-y pale brown head.
the nose is of roasted barley, chocolate, a touch of smoke, florals and a faint sourness.
the flavor is a rather savory wort-y mix of the aroma with some ash on the finish and barley in the aftertaste.
medium bodied with a thin nitro mouth feel. i’m sure this would have been greatly better with regular old co2... 6/3/6/2/13/3.0

Draft @ Brewpub: Dark brown, very creamy tan head, nice lacing. Nitrogen... Yes, creamy body and a smooth nitrous mouthfeel. Subtle roast and thin flavor, like guiness but without the hint of sour in the end.

Draught at the brewpub. Near black, creamy nitro head. Roasty licorice aroma. Mid sweet and dens, rounded mouthfeel and light-medium body. Some licorice and peat, salty bittrish bitterness. Think Guinness, but not the dead, industrial stuff we see nowadays - this is way better.

Black color, tan head, coffee/smokey aroma, bitter chocolate-smokey flavors, nice full and dry mouthfeel, has a nice hop bite in the finish, a nice tasty easy drinking stout.

This is a nice mellow stout. Very drinkable. The mouthfeel is balanced. It has some nice espresso/coffee to it. I’ll have another.

Love the name.
On cask @ the Desert Edge Brewpub. Pours deep dark with amber edges and thin tan head. The aroma is full with roasty dark malts, some hints of chocolate and coffee. I also get a sense of a sweeter note that seems like caramel or molasses. The taste is roasty mixing with some mild tart malt astringency. It becomes mildly coffee along with sweeter caramelized malts and chocolate. Very nice.

On tap at the Desert Edge brewpub. A dark brew with a medium head and body. The taste is roasted malt and coffee flavor with a hint of fruit. Not bad.
2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 BrewDad (3690) - Olympia, Washington, USA - JUL 19, 2007
Great Utah Beer Run – Summer 2007
On Tap – Dark brown with some light getting through due to being weak in malts. High coffee and chocolate aromas in the nose. This lacked the flavor to back up the great aroma. The Utah Laws killed this beer needed more malts and this would have rocked. Watery in flavor
