COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ale and lager fight for supremacy in this rare beer style: this is a dark copper ale but is fermented at colder temperatures like a lager and is more bold than an altbier. Full-bodied, well-hopped and bitter balanced by nutty-malty sweetness with notes of caramel and roasted malts.

Draft at Jerry’s. Dark mahogany with good, creamy, tan head, light lacing / Roast nose of caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, roast grain, nut / Medium body, creamy, just a hint thin, otherwise good balance, and bitterness on the finish / Flavors of dark plum, licorice, semisweet chocolate, toast, caramel, grass, nut / Needs to be just a little bit bigger, a little more fruit, but still quite nice.

Sampled at Destihl. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of bread, caramel and creamy malt. The taste was very dry with caramel notes and some bitterness from the hops. Decent.

Sampled in Champaign 11.2012. Light roast and fruit aroma. Chestnut brown, offwhite lace. Fullbodied, roasted with fruity notes. A hint metallicity, chocolate. Lacks the herbal hops and metallic dryness of a German alt.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a decent roasted malt with some dark cooca. Flavor again starts out very heavy on the malt with a big caramel note. Finish has more of the malt but with an ever so slight touch of coffee. Decent beer and I wish these guys would bring their stuff closer to St. Louis.

TheAlum (5205) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - AUG 20, 2011
Sampled on tap at Oak Park MicroBrew Review (Oak Park, IL). Snuck away for some rates while pouring today. Pours a well hazed brownish hue, amber edges, some glowing edges with a smaller offwhite head that rings, laces small. Aromas are toffee and biscuits, with toast, bread. Some light faint wafts of brown sugar, touch of dark fruit. Initial is lighter bodied with toast and bread, some brown sugar, biscuits, touch of sweeter toffee. Faint toastiness, light floral dry hops. A touch of caramel. A really nice toast and dryness into the finish. Pretty nice alt, not watery with a solid yet lighter body. Lingering touch of cocoa. Pretty nice.
