Draft at Champaign location. Pours a deep ambery-gold. White persistent head. Nose is quite clean and fresh. Big citrusy hops with some banana notes as well. On tasting, really quite bitter and a bit abrasive. Lots of citrusy hops come through, as does a clean caramel note in the background. Quite fruity and fresh, but the bitterness is a bit much. Solid, just overly bittered.

On tap at the Champaign location. Pours a clear orange with a thick white head. Aroma of sweet melon rind, Belgian yeast, and citrus. Flavor features more of the American strong ale notes with citrus and bitter hops in the finish, plus tropical fruits. Interesting beer and it does highlight both American and Belgian styles. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

Draft on tap at the brewpub (Champaign, IL). My first visit. Pours a nice deeper amber orange hue, healthy glow and haze, a touch darker with a frothy offwhite head atop. Dulled dark amber. Aromas are dancing florals and touches of citrus, spicy yeast and sweeter bread dough, toffee, and some spice and dryness. Initial is a good dose of dry florals and earthy hops, dancing in touches of lemony citrus, some clove and estery fruit come into play. Middle remains dry and spicy, with Belgian yeast and bread yeast, touches of dryness, pear, and cinnamon dance into the equation. Showing some decent fruity esters essence, gentle spice sustained. Finish shows a decent dryness with ok hopping, touch of telltale Belgian sweetness. Flaked wheat, fruity esters, dry hoppy finish. Nice. More in the vein of a Belgian IPA.. And a pretty nice one.
