COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A beer style perhaps lost in antiquity, our rye wine closely resembles an English-style barley wine but with a spicy/peppery note from rye, this beer is dark copper in color with a full body, high residual malty sweetness, high complexity of alcohols and fruity-ester characters balanced by low bitterness and extraordinary alcohol content, some English-variety hop aroma and flavor is present, and caramel, dark toffee and vinous/sherry-like aromas and flavors dominate. Drink it now or let it age.

Good, robust and malty like a barleywine should be. The ABV matches all the best. Good overall.

Shared 16.9 oz. bottle poured to snifters, displaying a clear & bright, dark copper color, with off white head froth, and spots & streaks of lacing. The nose was very malty, tainted with cocoa, spice, some caramel sweetness, and lurking alcohol. The taste was vinous notes, and cherry skins, with decent alcohol presence, earthy & lingering bitterness, and a finish that was dry, with a bit of tannic astringency, and still a touch of malt sweetness. Nice complexity.

On tap -- Almost no hops. Old ale flavors, burnt sugar, caramel, aged/stale. Good and interesting for as young as it is.

Draft. Heavy and boozy beer, dark fruits, spice notes, thick caramel booze notes, ok.

Bottle pour at home, black cherry color pour, sweet barrel aroma of cherry and grape. Slight sour taste, very smooth, enjoyed this one a lot.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful dark coppery orange, substantial off-white head with excellent retention. Nose is big sticky toffee, candy sugar, dried fruit, crystallized orange peel, saltwater taffy from the County Fair. Mouth is slick and medium sweet front, biscuity malt backbone chock full of fruit but then (quite contrary to the description) there is a pronounced metallic bitterness poking through it that is off-putting -- and it lingers. Tone down that bitterness (different hops varietal maybe?) and this is a pleasant barleywine.

Aroma is rye/rye bread, fruit/berries and spices. The flavor is berries/fruit, medium sweetness/very slightly cloying, malts and rye/spices/alcohol in the finish.

500ml bottle. Caramel, toffee and rye aroma with notes of dark fruit, chocolate and a touch of vanilla. Pours dark copper colored with a thin tan head and excellent lacing. Starts with dark fruit flavors off the bat with caramel and toffee notes joining in with a little bit of chocolate. Finishes dry, but still quite smooth with the peppery rye and just a bit of vanilla before the dark fruit flavors shine through once again to linger on the palate after the sip. Excellent barleywine with good complexity and depth of flavor.

Tap at Beer Junction. Transparent amber. Very fruity over the rye. This doesn’t have the earthiness I was expecting. Really strange flavor that I just can’t place. Rye comes through in the finish. Boozy, meh.

Draft at Beer Junction during Barrel Junction days. Hazy brown-red, sweet rye aroma. Sharp rye tart grain, raspberry. Sweet oaky finish. Nice.
