Sampled on tap at FoBAB 2011 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich roasty blackish hue, thick and opaque with a decent frothy loose light brown head, laces ok. Aromas are roast and toast, bourbon and vanilla, toffee, and toast. Some gentle touches of anise, dryness. More roast and dark cocoa. Initial is a bit tart, sour cherries and bourbon mix with vanilla, oak, and roast. Touches of sour porter mix in with vanilla, oak, toast and roast. Middle is toasty and dry. Finish is dry and roasty, some cocoa, touches of barrel. Seems the Destihl boys found a barrel that turned a bit due to their wild yeast program. Soured, but lovely.

On tap (FoBAB 2011) : The aroma consists of dark chocolate, rost, oak, alcoho, and a hint of vanilla. It’s a dark brown with no transparency and a small soapy beige head. The flavor starts with a short dose of chocolcate that is quickly followed by roast, sour lemon, and a touch of oak. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall...once again, sour and roasty just aren’t my thing.

Draft at FoBAB 9. Pours a deep brown/black with a tan head. Affords some hop notes initial as well as some lactic tang. The sour notes aren’t supposed to be there, but I can dig it. Soft cocoa and roast on the nose as well. On tasting, it carries that ’destihl’ character through. Nice chocolate and floral hops, good bitterness but the tartness really throws it a bit off. Definitely not bad, just not where I think they wanted it overall.
