COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bela may sound like a sweet name, but she’s actually quite bitter. A beer style that does not technically exist, the addition of over 25 pounds of Czech Saaz hops in this small-batch beer results in high hop bitterness and quite obvious Noble hop aroma and flavor. It is also a high alcohol beer with a nice warming effect, medium-body and some malty residual sweetness to remind you that Bela might still have a sweet side after all.

Draft. As a flight pour at green lady. This beer sells at 10+ for a 500ml and 9$ an 8oz on draft. THAT IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS, these guys can’t even hold a candle to any German brewery anyways in the style category. WHY EVEN DO THIS? WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT? 1. Stop making lagers, 2. stop charging so fucking much. Idiots. The beer is okay, in an anomaly style it isn’t bad but just for the idiocy of the idiots it gets a lower score.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2015 Bottle. Clear amber with a fine white head, some retention. Oak and alcohol and hops in the nose manifest as herbal juniper and bitters. Malt is seedy, honey-ish and spelt-like, hops resemble lemon cleaner and berries. Full bodied, medium sweetness with lingering chewy malt sugar in a flabby and fatiguing finish. A tad hot / boozy, cloying and rich, and sharp and acidic as well, so it actually resembles Malt Liquor more than it resembles a kind of bottom-fermented Double IPA. Great $10 drain pour, guys.

Pour on tap at the brewery, clear yellow pour with white head, aroma brought biscuit, bread, honey and vanilla up front into a bit of slight grass, touch of floral notes as well. Taste was malt forward with biscuit, cracker, some cereal into some vanilla, honey into a bit of grass, floral, and herbal notes, finishing sweet, slightly dry.

Draught. Pours a deep orange hued amber with a moderate soapy head. Some spicy rich notes. Potently bitter with a big grassy finish. Full bodied with a dry lingering bitterness.

It was good, but not what I was hoping for. It was a golden color beer, though I had hoped for a deep black.

Golden to amber pour. Strong fruity c-hop nose, with some tropical fruits and bubble gum esters. In the mouth the beer cascades trough a series of fruit followed by a bitterness that balances the flavor. Very good.

[Tap] Pours a dark shade of yellow with a nice cap of foam head. Light malts, grains, and a spicy hop nose to it. The flavor was more bland, unfortunately. Moderately bitter, with grapefruit and pine. Besides that a combination of light malts and lingering alcohol burn didn’t sit well with me. Syrupy, with average carbonation. Honestly, I really wasn’t sure in which direction this beer was trying to go.

On tap at the brewpub (Bloomington, IL). Pours a brighter golden hazed hue, decent whitish head dies to a sturdy film, laces ok. Aromas are pilsner malts, a touch of honey sweetness, grassy floral hops come in, a touch of lemon. Initial is medium bodied, a good soapiness, cereal grains, a touch of sweeter honey with a moderate bitterness of lemon and grass, weeds, a touch of spice pairs well with a warming boozy finish, dry and bitter, the sweetness from the more hefty malt body holds on though. Not bad, a more drinkable imerpail pils, warm and lingering bitter lightly mellow sweet finish.
