2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draft to taster at the Champaign brewpub. Looks solid; a completely transparent lighter gold with foamy white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells buttery with mild notes of hops in the background. Tastes like it smells, but worse, with an unpleasant mouthfeel that’s medium-full bodied. Slightly warming from the abv. A diacetyl bomb.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle. Grassy malt aroma with hints of caramel, floral hops and a touch of oak. Pours clear golden colored with one finger of soapy white head with good retention and some lacing. Starts with grassy malt flavors and a bit of caramel sweetness. Finishes dry with slight floral hoppiness and oak as well as a bit of alcohol at the very end. Solid Pilsner!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Pours like a nice meaty pils, frothy and golden. From there, I seem to lose any pilsner connection. The aroma is exceedingly sweet and the beer drinks with a sugary bit, bordering on a golden sour beer. (#5999, 7/1/2015)

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is fruit, citrus, mild spiciness and a hint of oak. The flavor is fruit/berries, malts, mild spicy notes and a bit of alcohol fire in the finish.

Orange with white head. Super bitter. Malts and grapefruit. Strong. Poured from 16oz bottle on dock at lake. Decent beer. Wasn't what I expected

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 ml bottle
A solid imperial pilsener strikes me as Destihl branching out in new directions (at least for me). While I’d love to try all the Reserve sours at $20 each they’ll remain a special treat. In the meantime stuff like this will more than tide me over until I can visit the brewery again. There’s a reason that Bloomington, IL remains a must stop destination on any drive north towards Wisconsin.
Aroma / Appearance - A caramel carbonated base supports a heady looking chunky thick foam. Sweet caramel and hops surge upwards along with dusty books. The total package is dense like a morning fog.
Flavor / Palate - A cidery texture gives some booziness from the first sip. Almonds drizzled in caramel continue the thickness through to the strong finish. Paired with the right meal this would make a perfect pint if I could find another fresh bottle.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, lime, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, spicy oak, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright earthy/spicy hops, oak, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, lime, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, spicy oak, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Good amount of herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, cracker, bread, light honey, pepper, spicy oak, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice robustness and balance of bright earthy/spicy hops, oak, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fairly clean on lager flavors with some light yeast ester notes present. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial pilsner style. All around good robustness and balance of bright earthy/spicy hops, oak, and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the high ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Draft. As a flight pour at green lady. This beer sells at 10+ for a 500ml and 9$ an 8oz on draft. THAT IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS, these guys can’t even hold a candle to any German brewery anyways in the style category. WHY EVEN DO THIS? WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT? 1. Stop making lagers, 2. stop charging so fucking much. Idiots. The beer is okay, in an anomaly style it isn’t bad but just for the idiocy of the idiots it gets a lower score.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2015 Bottle. Clear amber with a fine white head, some retention. Oak and alcohol and hops in the nose manifest as herbal juniper and bitters. Malt is seedy, honey-ish and spelt-like, hops resemble lemon cleaner and berries. Full bodied, medium sweetness with lingering chewy malt sugar in a flabby and fatiguing finish. A tad hot / boozy, cloying and rich, and sharp and acidic as well, so it actually resembles Malt Liquor more than it resembles a kind of bottom-fermented Double IPA. Great $10 drain pour, guys.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour on tap at the brewery, clear yellow pour with white head, aroma brought biscuit, bread, honey and vanilla up front into a bit of slight grass, touch of floral notes as well. Taste was malt forward with biscuit, cracker, some cereal into some vanilla, honey into a bit of grass, floral, and herbal notes, finishing sweet, slightly dry.
