Dark pour with off-tan head. Nose features brettanomyces characteristics (dark fruits, slightly sour) some sweetness, and a subdued roasted characteristic. The mouth is barrel forward with vanillins and tannins. As it warms a bit of fruit comes out. Cherries, and cherry flavor from the brett are a nice balance to the barrel flavors.

On tap at Sugar Maple. Poured black with a short-lived, smoked beige head. The aroma picked up burnt, lightly-smoky black malts with lesser chocolate and vanilla.. sweet honey and sour fruit skins came through as it warmed. The flavor found a lot of molasses and burnt black patent at the core.. smoked malts, tart berry skins, and light vinegar laced throughout.. finished tangy and astringent with metallic notes and cherry skins. Medium-bodied and slick on the palate with low carbonation.. too sour, funky, and smoky for me.

Jet black pour thick brown head nice lacing. Ar of roast malts a light smoke touch of raisen typical generic IS. Full well coated pal. Taste finishes w/ an unpleasant lightly astringent quality of smoke mixed w/ acidic hops but not quite right. Some vanilla notes and a light tart fruit and a tiny hint of a bourbon and metallic quality. Not very good.

Enjoyed on tap at Sugar Maple in Bayview, Wisconsin. Pours a deep brown/black with a medium, lacy tan head. The smell was of unsweetened pie cherries and hot cocoa. The taste started off tasting like the pie cherries and then a touch of coffee with a cocoa nib finish. It was very smooth and balanced and not an overly heavy stout. There was some slight coffee bitterness and dryness on the end, but overall, very pleasing.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very murky brown, small head, very thick looking. Aroma has a strong tart sourness to the nose, lighter cherry, modest caramel sweetness, toasted malt later and finishes with a strong chocolate presence. Flavor has a modest amount of cherry sourness/tartness to it up front followed by a mild woody, sour is kinda dirty with a slight band aid taste, lots of baker chocolate in the middle with a cherry fruitiness coming in late in the tasting. Body is modest feeling with a light slightly watery tasting modest alcohol warmth at the end. Overall a bit too much as the early sourness/tartness adds a slightly off-flavor to the beer. Balance in flavors is good but a bit weak in strength.

Tasted on draft on 3/12/11 at Goose Island Stoutfest. Pours black with a thick tan head that slowly recedes to fairly thick lace, and leaving some residue along the inside of the glass. The nose is sour and funky cherry with dark roasted malt and coffee. The flavor is dry, sour, and funky with tart cherry, darkly roasted malt, coffee, and bitter chocolate. The body is medium with lively carbonation and a long sour cherry and bitter coffee finish. This was probably my favorite beer of the festival.

Big thanks to pantanap and gunhaver, cheers!
This growler pours dark murky brown with thin mocha head. The aroma is sour as expected and surrounded by thin layers of chocolate and dark roasted malts. The taste is similar starting with dark roasted malts, some chocolate and then giving way to growing sourness. It ends dry with lingering and then fading sour mash notes.
