COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This dark and eerie Belgian Strong ale is brewed with dark Belgian "candy" sugar, raw sugar and dark, special & aromatic malts. Full-bodied, rich & sweet maltiness, low hop bitterness, flavor & aroma, fruity complexity, deceiving alcohol strength and some phenolic spiciness...much better with food than Chianti ever was.

On tap at Champaign brewpub. Pours clear dark amber. Very sweet with good complex fruitiness and a tad of spice and a touch of hops. Good balance. Clean sweet finish. Best thing I had at Destihl.

500ml bottle. Dark brown pour. This is a good suprise from destihl. Had a free pour of it but assuming this is far overpriced. Nice dryness from the candi sugar, rich dark malt flavors, dark fruits, big and warming. Would pair well with braised meats.

Huge dark fruits and belgian candy sugar notes. Nice woodiness and mellow mouthfeel. Not too harsh and certainly drinkable at it’s ABV! I’d assume it’ll continue to mature in the bottle. This was a treat!

Mahogany pour with a moderate eggshell crown. Honey-baked biscuit, caramel, roasted malt, toasted oats, oak, and red wine. Medium mouthfeel and decent complexity.

Pours a dark hazy amber brown. Has a strong fruity malt aroma. A very strong fruity malt and dark alcohol taste. Has a lingering dark malt and dark alcohol taste. Similar to a barley wine.

Drank it the wrong way in a to go cup on a drive from destihl to Chicago. But it did the job. Brown sugar and fruits. A bit lip puckering. Can't say I liked or didn't like it

Bottle from Whole Foods PM. Pours hazy ruby with 2-finger tan head. Nose is caramel malt, earthy, with notes of brown sugar, yeast, and mild butyric acid. Tastes earthy, caramel malty, with notes of vinous fruit, some phenols, spice, berry notes. Gets a bit hot and cloying as it warms.

Dark clear, ruby. Light tan head. Strong molasses, spice. Vanilla, rum. Quite sweet, light bitterness and tang. Kind of oily, long finish. No carbonation. Good amount of alcohol. Fine.

On tap at Warren’s Ale House in Wheaton, IL., and 5 oz. sampler served, showing a clear, mahogany hue, with frothy, light tan head foam, and curtainy cling to the lacing. The nose was dark cherry, syrupy sweetness, a touch of vinous nature, subtle spice, and a hint of oak? Medium+ bodied, with lively carbonation, and some tartness, the pronounced dark fruit & malt sweetness somewhat blanketed the effect of the alcohol, and earthy bitterness, although some warmth and astringency were noticed. An effervescent cordial!

500ml bottle. Sweet Candi sugar aroma with notes of caramel and tart cherry. Pours dark amber colored with a thin tan head with good retention and some lacing. Starts quite sweet with candi sugar and caramel malt along with some dark fruit sweetness. Finishes smooth with tart cherry presenting itself slightly in the finish as well as cognac and a little bit of booze. Very nice Belgian strong.

Sampled at ABR 2014. Clear rich orange/amber pour with a small foamy white head. Malty, yeast, dark fruit, brown sugar sweetness. Sweet, but not overly so. Good.
