An Our mission for this Imperial or ’Double’ India Pale Ale is to overload the beer with hops for an intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma while still being balanced by a big malt profile, resulting in a hoppy beer with more dimension. This beer is light copper in color with some hop haze from overloading with dry hops as well. World Beer Championships Award: Bronze Medal 2011

12oz can from Steve’s in Fitchburg. First enjoyed in the can - partway - listening to the ballgame in the car between basketball games which cost $50, but that is another story. Pours orangey-copper with a bit of a white head. Some spots of lace. Aroma is heavily bitter with heavy citrus and almost a pepperminty-strength herb. Later some toffee shows through, and some sprucy pine with alcohol. Taste is of pineapple, grapefruit, lemon zest, sweet toffee malts, mango, heavy resin, some simple sugar and tangy sprucy pine. Medium bodied and a bit hot. Finishes more sweet than bitter, on that bitter - sweet scale, although not for lack of bitterness. In the end, the sweetness just overrides. Still quite bitter with a lot of length. This one has a lot of components, but is a bit of a muddled mess. 14.1

Can at the brewery. Pours a clear amber orange with an off white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of grass with a good amount of grapefruit with a strong sweet grain backbone and caramel. Flavor has lots of grapefruit with some grass with a bit of grain as the backbone.

Hazy orange, fruity smell. Little hops up front. Malty sweeter finish. Run of the mill iipa.

This canned brew from a beer festival poured a small sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a very softly carbonated transparent dark yellow orange colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. The ok flavor contained notes of wood mild spice hops and malt. An OK brew just nothing special.

Can. Meh. Taste like the focus was on abv and not the flavor. Amp it and dump hop juice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz can. Orangish color with thick white head. Malty and grapefruit aroma. Boozy and tropical fruit taste. Pretty good beer. My first from the brewery.

Solid beer. Picked up a pack on a whim. Malty and strong, bitter with citrus coming in late. Wish it was less malty but its drinkable and enjoyable.

Super malty, but extreme bitter DIPA. Thick and resiny and golden caramel in color, Destihl has brewed a bold beer. Surprised that there was not more lacing present in this brew, but it left a distinct flitter on my tongue.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2014 Appearance is deep amber. Thin head, but lots of lacing. Aroma of citrus hops and sweet caramel. Sticky sweet. Not impressed, in fact, this beer is offensive. The ABV is very noticable. Not my bag of tea.

Copper, farily clear, heady foamy, lacy. Cans seem to have better head retention for some reason always. good aroma, fruity hops.Sweet fresh. Taste is malty, with caramel, somewhat hoppy but pretty malty with sweetness. some light pine/resin in the finish. Finish is a smooth light bitter. Drinks like a 7%er too , but kind of void and bland at times. For a double this size Id have to say I enjoy it more than most double ipas. That said there are not many double ipa’s I like but love ipas generally.
