An Our mission for this Imperial or ’Double’ India Pale Ale is to overload the beer with hops for an intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma while still being balanced by a big malt profile, resulting in a hoppy beer with more dimension. This beer is light copper in color with some hop haze from overloading with dry hops as well. World Beer Championships Award: Bronze Medal 2011

Destihl Hoperation Overload has an extremely thick and lively cream colored head, a fairly opaque gold-orange appearance, and heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is predominately of hop resin with a white bread crust background. Taste is also strong on hop oil and pronounced bitterness, but the sweetness from the malts does balance it out. Mouth-feel is heavy and slick, and Destihl Hoperation Overload finishes puckering, not the least bit alcohilic, and nicely drinkable. RJT

Medium copper color, half finger of cream colored head. Smell is an phenolic caramel, almost reminiscent of a barley wine, pine, vanilla, slight soured fruit, some tropical fruit. Taste is a caramel malt sweetness with some earthy hops that aren't overwhelming in bitterness, some citrus flavors, pine hop. Smooth finish with little bitterness, some cracker, bread. The malt sweetness almost over shadows the hops, which isn't typical for the style. It isn't a bad beer, but maybe not a great representation of the style, but an interesting take. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Looks ok, does not smell like an ipa, bad taste of Band-aids, rubbing alcohol, weird funky belgian ipa flavor. Maybe we got a bad keg in Seattle but this beer sucks ass

can - This brew pours up a thick, half inch, off-white head and has a strong grapefruit hop aroma. The flavor is full of hops bitterness and citrus with a big load of malt sweetness too. It’s full bodied with a long, pleasantly bitter finish. Very well done. I see the malt is too heavy for some, but for me overloading both the malt and the hops works great here.

Dough cotton candy white sugar a little tropical fruit notes I guess. Hazy brown orange pour, nice head and lace. Flavors of cotton candy white sugar dough dank more cotton candy. Definitely a odd yeast aspect to this one. Not too hoppy. Full bodied alcohol apparent.

Location: Draft at Monk’s Pub, 7/8/14

Aroma: The nose is pretty full flavored, lots of grapefruit, some resin, and a bit of caramel
Appearance: It pours an unclear orange-amber color with an off-white colored head
Flavor: The flavor is along the same line, resiny bitterness with some malty sweetness as well
Palate: The body is medium-plus, with a pretty solid mouthfeel, and a touch of heat
Overall Impression: It seems like so long ago that I was drinking this beer and watching Germany absolutely destroy Brazil. Hard to believe that was only July 8th. What a crazy game! As for the beer, this one is plenty solid. Worth checking out.

aroma: pineapple, toffee, some funky pizza dough. appearance: coppery red body with thick and foamy off-white head. taste: the malt backbone is strong in this one--and overrides the lemon peel, grapefruit, and pine that reside in the background for much the duration until the end when they burst with bitterness but little flavor. palate: sticky...harsh finish. overall: meh, not a real showcase for the hops, so not what i expected. too malty. still good? yes. buy it again at 11 dollars for four cans? no. i’ve been neglecting Rampant for far too long in order to give these other IPAs a shot.
