COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Our mission for this Imperial or ’Double’ India Pale Ale is to overload the beer with hops for an intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma while still being balanced by a big malt profile, resulting in a hoppy beer with more dimension. This beer is light copper in color with some hop haze from overloading with dry hops as well. World Beer Championships Award: Bronze Medal 2011

Hoppy, but not an overload, I enjoyed, crisp and citrusy. If it had more of a finished hop I would rate it higher.

Pours a mostly clear orange copper with lasting head and great lacing. Aroma is strong and pleasant, with more earthy herbal and perfumy hops more than citrus and pine. Taste is also more on the earthy side of the DIPA spectrum, with some lingering citrus and grapefruit. Strong overall, making it more of a sipper, even for this style.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours lightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, floral, grass, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and solid balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; with decent strength. A bit too perfumy/piney with weak strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice DIPA. Good complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Can to glass. Beautiful deep, clear orange pour. A little off-white head and lacing. Hops and maybe a little bread in the aroma. Definitely hops leading the taste, but kept in check. A little sweetness, but the hops rules. Medium carbonation. A little bitterness at the end. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

light tea color with an average head and good lacing. Nice citrusy taste with a thick syrupy mouthfeel. Some caramel as well.

Pours a super hazy copper color. Thick white head. Smells like a mixture of a damp basement and malt. The most pronounced the thing in the flavor is the alcohol. Almost a sour bitterness.

Pours a hazy orange with a medium foamy head. Aroma of bitter citrus, pine, grass, floral, and earth. Taste was very bitter, grapefruit, pine, and floral notes. A little malt sweetness in the background, but the bitter hops dominate this beer mostly. Medium body, nicely carbed, dry finish. Solid double IPA.

Hazy orange copper color, with a thin layer of sticky foam. Aroma was very grassy, more of an herbal bittering hop nose than any pine or citrus. Flavor was earthy with an aspirin bitterness. Some pale malts in the aftertaste, but steamrolled by the hop content. Finishes dry with a lingering bitter herbal aftertaste. It had a good amount of carbonation and body.

Destihl Hoperation Overload has an extremely thick and lively cream colored head, a fairly opaque gold-orange appearance, and heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is predominately of hop resin with a white bread crust background. Taste is also strong on hop oil and pronounced bitterness, but the sweetness from the malts does balance it out. Mouth-feel is heavy and slick, and Destihl Hoperation Overload finishes puckering, not the least bit alcohilic, and nicely drinkable. RJT

Medium copper color, half finger of cream colored head. Smell is an phenolic caramel, almost reminiscent of a barley wine, pine, vanilla, slight soured fruit, some tropical fruit. Taste is a caramel malt sweetness with some earthy hops that aren't overwhelming in bitterness, some citrus flavors, pine hop. Smooth finish with little bitterness, some cracker, bread. The malt sweetness almost over shadows the hops, which isn't typical for the style. It isn't a bad beer, but maybe not a great representation of the style, but an interesting take. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
