COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Our mission for this Imperial or ’Double’ India Pale Ale is to overload the beer with hops for an intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma while still being balanced by a big malt profile, resulting in a hoppy beer with more dimension. This beer is light copper in color with some hop haze from overloading with dry hops as well. World Beer Championships Award: Bronze Medal 2011

Still finishing my notes from the 2011 MWBF. Not a big, hoppy smell to it. I get a little citrus and pine. Nice, thick malty taste to it. Very orangey amber color and some lacy foam in the glass.

Can to glass. Immediately a strong caramel malt and toffee nose like a barleywine. Moderately hoppy, almost a cheeselike note to it though. Moderately piney as I keep sniffing. Pour is nearly red with a small off white head. Holy intense malt and hops. Moderate toffee and caramel initially, then bitterness kicks in with some grassy hop flavor. Alcohol more than noticeable in this one. Quite warming. OK, overall but a tad sweet for my taste, and the alcohol could be better masked/fermented to be less up front.

Can. Clear dark amber color with ivory foam. Malty marshmallow, cotton candi aromas with mild herbal, green hoppage. Medium bodied with soft co2. Sweet pale malt flavors with spicy, bitter pine hoppage____mild alcohol twang to finish----good.

12oz can pours with a clear yet deep ruby red to amber body that supports a thin off white head. The aroma offers up resiny pine hops first and foremost and then it gets into sort of red apple mixed with mild notes of earthy tea and cherry like fruitiness. The taste starts with firm resiny bitter pine hops riding on a sea of various sweet malt notes to slightly crystal malt sweetness. To midway hints of fruity esters are considered amid all the pine hoppiness just as a sliver of earthy tea murmurs thinly to the surface. Rereading this it doesn’t seem all the appealing but it pulls it off with largely resiny pine hoppiness that’s tempered by various sweet notes. Nice.

Pours a dark gold toward amber with a thick off-white head that settles slowly and leaves some foamy lace. Nose involves some stone fruit, peaches, pine resin, honey, some spice, some oranges, Pretty sweet, somewhat bitter. Fuller bodied, oily, dense, fair action, with a soapy lingering hop oil finish. Not sure what to say. It has some good qualities, but mostly the body is overbearing, the nose isn’t that great, and it’s too sweet. So nope, not for me.

can @ John’s Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Clear dark amber with a full 2" white head, waves and blobs of lace. Aroma is an appealing combo of caramel malt and citrus. Taste is strong caramel malt that moves evenly through the palate to a solid citrus hop finish. Both sides take their turn, and both are equally strong. This is a well-conceived brew, and absolutely satisfying. Highly recommended.

Pours a medium copper with toffee head nicely thick and lacing down my IPA glass. Aroma is mostly florals with a hint of citrus hops not surprising for a double. Taste is inordinately balanced for a double with strong floral and grassy hops and a notable malty backbone to help this brew stand. A very slight alcohol burn complements a chewy mouthfeel that still, through mild carbonation still manages to remain approachable. A bold finish pairs well with another sip. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can at Ryan’s 2014 July tasting. Pours a clear orange body with thin creamy white lacing. Aroma is typical citrus/pine duet with a light malt backbone. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with carbonated feel and notes of citrus fruits, fresh pine, light resin, bitter grapefruit and sweet malt.

Can from Whole Foods. Pours deep copper with 2-finger off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, spicy hops, florals. Tastes caramel malty, somewhat astringent, with a huge IBU load, and spicy florals at the finish, albeit somewhat cloying.
