2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Was served with a "good luck with that" from the bartender. Deep brown with a thin tan head. Very low carbonation. Nice roasty nose with chocolate and a bit of ash. Quite sour, more than expected. I was constantly debating if the problem was astringency or sourness. Either too much acid malt or black patent. Quite forward and balanced.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. Pours opaque black with a large creamy tan head that dissipates very slowly and leaves great coating lacing. Very typical presentation for a nitro stout. Aroma is quite roasty, notes of ash, and really smells like some lactose is present as well. Flavor follows, light sweet, medium bitter, roasty. Medium body. Perhaps sweeter than typical for the style; kind of straddling the dry/sweet stout boundary, but its still a nice beer on its own merits. I quite liked this example, not sure why it is getting so bashed here.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sampled at Destihl. It poured a black color with a beige head. The aroma was roasty dry with chocolate and black malt. The taste was roasty astringent malt with some chocolate and a bitter finish. Good stuff.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap in a sampler. Came in the glass dark brown with a dark head. Medium body. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is roasted malts. Some bitterness in the finish. All the parts are there but something seemed missing. Good flavor but maybe drinking 12 beers at one sitting was too much.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ Champaign location. Quite dark, nearly opaque, with a thick creamy nitro head. Low roasty aroma, killed somewhat by the nitro. Dry and roasty with a touch of ash and old coffee grounds. Creamy mouthfeel (nitro). Not bad.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I was generally disappointed by Destihl. I’ll give another chance. This stout was one of the more acceptable beers. A little too bitter though. Too much black patent? Serving: Tap

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewpub (Bloomington, IL). Pours a pitchblack opaque pour, a nice creamy offwhite head sits atop with good lacing. Aromas are a nice feel towards coffe and creamy, sweet oatmeal and a touch of cocoa. Irish soda bread, sweet coffee. Initial is medium bodied, coffee and cream, oatmeal malt body with a touch of roastiness. Finish is mellow, a touch roasty and dry. Not necessarily a sweet stout by any means. The oatmeal and touch of sweeter coffee is there up front, but it really settles down into a dry and partially roasty finish. Not bad, it seems a bit lost in it’s identity. Does it want to be a dry or sweet stout? It’s pretty evident what it should be. Ok.
