Sampled at Destihl. It poured a dark brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was of strong chocolate, roasted malts and very light coffee. The taste was of stronger coffee, lighter chocolate and some roast. Very good.

On tap @ Champaign location. Medium brown with ruby highlights and just the thinnest tan cap. Bourbony profile, quite a bit of oaky vanilla and bourbon sweetness trumping the dark malts. Almost no carbonation. No reference was made to this being a BA version of Pappy’s, but I wonder if that is what I had in retrospect. Looking at other raters’ reviews, nobody has had a similar experience to mine. Hmmmm....

This was from a Sample glass at the Destihl normal brewpub. It came in the glass dark brown with a tan head. Nose is chocolate malts and citrus hops. Medium plus mouthfeel. Flavor is roasted dark malts and ther is lots of hops sin the taste and also the finish. Nice tasty beer.

Had a 4oz sample of this on draft at Destihl. Wasn’t impressed- one note, simple porter without the flavor I expect from a porter described as "robust". Use more malt, dudes.

Draft at Destihl. My favorite of this trip. Pours a deep brown, near black. Nose is chocolate, faint charcoal, herbal hops and some toasty notes. Clean. Faint fruity ester. On tasting, nice and rich chocolate, light body. Brown malt and cocoa dominate. Balanced bitterness. Light caramel. Really well made porter here!

Strykzone (4826) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - APR 27, 2012
Draft at the Normal site. Almost black with just a tiny bit of red. A nice creamy tan head. A roasted, grainy and cocoa nose. This is both carbonated and creamy in the mouth. The above flavors are tasted along with citrus hops. The cocoa and chocolate alternate for prominence. Very nice lacing remains. This is tasty and was a good choice for dinner on the way to Dark Lord Day.

TheAlum (5575) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - APR 6, 2012
Draft on tap at the brewpub (Normal, IL). Pours a rich deeper ruby black hue, light hits the body as a deep mahogant hue, touches of haze and ruby glow. A big frothy tannish head sits atop, dies to a firm film and laces well throughout. Aromas are dustings of cocoa, dry roastiness, and Irish soda bread. Biscuits, gentle red fruit, and some mellow dryness fix in. Brown malts, touches of dried fruit, and more cocoa dustings. Initial is medium bodied, a touch more girthy with some dry cocoa, touches of milk chocolate, dry and mellow brown malts linger in. Touches of red fruit, dried fruit, and toasty roast work the palate. Middle gets a bit more creamy, focusing on mellow sweetness, brown malts, and quickly moving into a dry finish. Lingering gentle earthy hops, cocoa, and mild roast leave this beer offering a firm enjoyable finish. Lost me a bit up front but really grabs it back. Nice beer.
