3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
In short: A mix of vinegary sourness and sweet caramelized cookies. Weird experiment
How: Post-EBF hotel tasting, (I think it was a 22oz hand-bottle)
The look: Cloudy light-brown body topped by a very small white head
In long: Nose is very sour/acidic/vinegary with a bit of funk and caramel. Taste has vinegar, brownies, cookies, toffee, funk. The vinegary nature of the beer just didnít work with the sweet malted notes. Kind of fun, but a bit of a mess. I really didnít know what to think of this beer, I was in a state of confusion, but at least I was not in the state of New-Jersey.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at GTMW 2010 - Pours murky brown with a big off white head. Nose has mild citrus funk with decent sour notes. Body is smooth and well-carbonated, and the citrus sour is tart while still being easy to drink. A real approachable sour for those that havenít had one before but with enough puckering tartness to satisfy a fledgling sourhead. This was my second sour of the day from Destihl, and I was pleasantly surprised.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Second sour from Destihl at GTMW 10. While this one didnít have the same raw impact for me as their strawberry beer, this was nearly as impressive (and perhaps more so because of the relative complexity). A nice copper color with white head, the aroma and flavor was exactly what Iíd expect in a flemish brown: sweet brown sugar, sour and tart with the faintest amount of funk. Very well balanced.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Growler from Adam via Destihl donation to RBSG. Thanks! Pours a reddish brown with wisps of white head. Nose is funk, a bit of vinegar and unripe fruit. On taste, a kind sweetness and odd astringency come across. More cider vinegar and some lacto-intensity comes through. Finishes pretty dry. Odd, not my favorite of the Dekkeras Iíve had.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown pour/thin head. Nose is mainly acetic acid, followed by some brett notes (tart fruits, muskyness) and just a touch of bread/yeast. Body is a bit thin for the pH. I found this enjoyable and drinkable, but my wife found it too one dimensional on acidity. Good example of a good barrel having a positive effect on a solid beer. I really enjoy Destihlís approach of souring their standard line up to illustrate the effects of aging methods.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brewpub (Bloomington, IL). Pours a murky darker brown, some light hits the edges, but the haze from the barrel is evident, a small frothy offwhite head hits the top, laces ok as it rings. Aromas are a nice tart lactic sourness, brown sweet malts and caramel, toffee, biscuits are beneath but a subtle sour cherry, lactic sourness, tart bretty funk mix well. Initial is similar, decent sourness and bretty funk mix with a bit of fruity acidity, caramel and toffee malt base still present but the hop character has largely dropped off, light bitterness and sticking acidic sourness comes off ok in the finish, lactic sourness, bretty barnyard funk and a touch of leather, vanilla tannins, a touch of sour cherry. A tasty sour by the guys down at Destihl. Iíve been happy with their barrel series here and this is a tasty pretty drinkable sour brown with a decent drinkability
