UPDATED: NOV 17, 2011 Draft on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 (Madison, WI). Pours a nice pitchblack opaque pour, frothy tannish loose head dies to a decent film, ok lacing. A sour stout. Hmmm. Aromas are lactic acid, sour cherries, touches of oak, vanilla, and roasted malts, toffee, and funky brett, dry dust, touch of cheese. Initial is a hardcore lactic explosion of lemons, yogurt, and moving into blue cheese funk. Dry, dusty, with lingering roast into the backend. Some coca, coffee. Finish is lingering sour cherries, lemons, touches of roast, cocoa, and toffee. Really nice sour stout with cherries and lemons, yogurt, and roast. Solid. Worth the stop, with good balance between stout and sour essence. Tasty. Sour stouts can sometimes gimmicky, or very artificial. This one definitely was not. Recommended.. And up there with Sour Strawberry.

(Draught) Pours a dark brown body with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, cherry, and vanilla. Flavor of cherry, roasted malt, sourness, chocolate, oak, and vanilla.

On tap at GABF. Pours with a black body and a lasting tan head. Aromas are grassy, light vanilla, chocolate, lightly sour, plum, and cherry. Flavors are roasty, chalky, vanilla, cherry, light oak, a hint of sour. Chewy, lively bubbles medium dry. Not my favorite offering from them.

Pours dark black with nice creamy tan head, aroma of some nice sour cherry skin, roast, toffee, chocolate, some slight lactic tart notes as well. Taste is nice and rich with some coffee and chocolate leading into sour cherry skins and some tart lemony lactic, going into a roasted bitter finish. This one worked for me!

On tap at GTMW. Poured near black with a dense, dark tan head. The aroma picked up sour cherries and metallic notes over a hard-to-find, rich malty base.. loved how the sourness cut through the roasty malts. The flavor found tangy sour oak and vinegary notes first, with warm, roasted dark malts behind.. sour cherries over complementary malts on the finish. Heavier-bodied with quite a lot of sourness on the palate.. well-balanced and tasty.

Draft at Great Taste. This was a pretty awesome one here. Pours black as night with a thin tan head that doesn’t really last. Nose is big and sour. Strong notes of cherry and yogurt and some faint cocoa in the background. Really kind of reminds me of Black Forest cake. Nice nose. On tasting, great level of sourness with a bit of supporting sweetness. Clean sourness with lacto being the dominant acid here. The roast is in the background and I think that is why this works so well. More of those big cherry notes come through. Pretty damn awesome beer.
