Pour on tap at one eyed bettys, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, roast, coffee, some slight spice notes, touch of dark fruits. Taste is a mix of sweet fruit, touch of odd trashy and very astringent coffee notes into some roast, dark fruit, finishing oddly sweet.

Draft.Brown with medium tan head and nice lacing. Aroma of rye spiciness,roasted malts, and a hint of citrus. Medium body with spice (rye), roasted malt, coffee,and some burnt astringency with a dry finish.

A guest tap that was perhaps a little on the expensive side for what it is this still was enjoyable enough that a half pour was easy to finish. A prototypical black IPA is everything you would expect and nothing more.
Aroma / Appearance - A rick black base is oily and streaky. Dirty brown head adds a rustic tint. Chocolate, rye, and coffee are a combination of dessert and dinner rolled into one. Hops dominate but there is an underlying malt bill.
Flavor / Palate - Malt, coffee, and rye appear as expected from the pleasant bouquet. Toasted undertones sweep away room for the latent bitterness. Low key resin lingers in the throat giving this a long lasting finish. It might not be my favorite beer but you could do far worse.

On tap @ the brewpub in Champaign. Dark brown with golden highlights. Papaya hop character, dark roast foundation, moderately bitter finish. Nice.

Tap. Pours dark ruby black, small creamy tan head, great lacing. Aroma is a nice blend of citrus, roasted malts, a bit ashy perhaps. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, tangy. Medium body, nice.

On tap at Pig & Pickle. Black pour with an amber tint around the edges and a creamy beige head. Mild char and cocoa in the aroma. Pleasant roast element on the mid palate followed by grapefruit pith. Closer to a porter than an IPA, but stradles the fence respectably.

Tap. Dark black pour, minimal head and a roasted dark malt/rye aroma. Flavor is peaty rye, agressively hoppy and more dry peppery rye on the finish. Really enjoyed this.

Draft. Poured black color with an average frothy tan head that lasted and produced excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted malt & earthy hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid beer.

Black pour from draft at whole foods in Lincoln park. Black with a ton of fluffy creamy head. Very nutty and hoppy taste. Malty rye and chocolate backbone. Pretty good but I've had better black IPAs.

Not the greatest black ipa. It has roasted notes and citrus but is thoroughly bland and watery.
