COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The aroma and flavor of this classic hefeweizen (or weissbier/wheat beer with yeast) is decidedly fruity with clove, nutmeg-like and even vanilla-like phenolics. Banana-like esters are also present. This beer is made with over 50 percent malted wheat, and hop rates are quite low, with hop flavor and aroma being absent. Hefeweizen is well attenuated and very highly carbonated, yet its relatively high starting gravity and alcohol content make it a medium-full bodied beer. The color is very pale. Because yeast is present, the beer will have yeast flavor and a characteristically fuller mouthfeel and is appropriately very cloudy. Alcohol by Weight (Volume): 4.6% (5.9%) Bitterness (IBU): 14 Color SRM (EBC): 4 (8)

Sampled at Destihl. It poured a cloudy golden color with a white head. The aroma was of banana and clove with some spice and wheat as well. The taste was more wheat with the clove and spice growing towards the finish. Not bad.

Sampled in Champaign 11.2012. Dry yeast aroma. Greyish yellow, low lace. Dry spicy yeast, almost franconian weizen. Fairly light body, lacks chewyness. Ok spicy finish.

This bottled brew from rbsg #19 poured a very small sized head of frothy medium sized white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a hazy dark orange colored body and a poor lacing. The aroma was citrus malty and banana. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of mild hops citrus and malt liquor. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

On tap at the Normal, IL. location, and served to a 12 oz. tulip showing a cloudy, orange/golden hue, a modest, soft white, bubbly head that diminished rather quickly to a ring & film, and left some spotty lacing on the glass. The nose was banana over fruit & citrus, with light sweetness, soft grain, and a touch of clove. The flavor was similar, with a bit of tartness, but soft carbonation, and a light to medium body. A tasty, standard Hefe.

Draft. Cloudy gold body with a fizzy, white head. Aroma of clove, fingernail polish, husky grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Tart finish, almost sour. Medium body, creamy texture, moderate carbonation. Slightly hot, alcoholic. And then there’s that chemical, solvent aftertaste. Where’s the banana? Bubble gum?

On tap at DeStihl. Murky greyed orange-tan. Thick white head. The bigger ABV enticed me to get a 12oz...they said it was 6.9%..Creamy, this is like a good strong Cream Ale, lots of vanilla, more so than banana. Not true to style, but drinkable. Sweet and sugary, not so impressive after a few sips.

On tap at Champaign brewpub. Flavor is sweet and rich with touches of juicy fruit spice and of course yeast. Medium mouthfeel and body for the dtyle. Lingering sweet yeasty finish. Quite good.

4 oz sample at the brewpub. H hazy dingy golden. Light bubblegum and some cloves. The first sip was sour but that very quickly settled in as semi sweet. There is a hint of orange peel and some very soft spice. There are light peppers tasted. Huh? Flavor is muted and I wish it offered more vibrance.

We’ve been here a few times and the beers and have been hit or miss. A few days ago we stopped in and it was a definite miss. In fact, I couldn’t believe they’d serve this stuff. It was obviously contaminated. There was no banana or clove flavor, it tasted like a sweet tart. I couldn’t finish it, and left disgusted.
