3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 lusikka (4039) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 27, 2012
330 ml bottle. Thanks Timo A.
Pours a black colour with a beigeish head. Aroma of grassy hops, dark chocolate, syrup and licorice. Flavour of roasted malts, grassy hops, dark chocolate, oak, espresso, strong syrup and salty licorice. Alcohol comes through a bit too much. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Finishes smooth, malty and a bit salty. A bit too sweet, at least now, but I’m guessing this ages well. Rather interesting, but not at it’s best yet.
2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 ClubGonzo (2687) - Bergen, NORWAY - NOV 14, 2012
Bottle. Gusher, leaving behind a large caramel head over a jet black body. Aroma is dark chocolate, burnt toast, licorice, wood, cognac, hints of coffee, sweet vanilla and dark sugars. Taste is sweet syrupy espresso notes, licorice, cognac, caramel and hints of sugar and alcohol. Very raw and unbalanced, with a near-sickening sweet fringe. Also, the palate is disturbingly fizzy for a full-bodied high ABV beer like this, creating a sense of confusion in my mouth. Not quite there unless you want a serious sugar rush. :-P
