Bottled. A deep red beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, spices, flowers, malt, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet with notes of caramel sauce, malt, hops, spices, and wood as well as hints of whiskey, leading to a dry, bitter finish, where the alcohol tickles the tongue.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 mjs (3609) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 6, 2010
(Bottle at Pikkulintu) The beer poured deep reddish brown and hazy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts, whisky, vanilla and alcohol. Palate was medium bodied, warming and dry with low carbonation. Flavours were whisky, malts, berries and sweetness. Aftertaste had whisky. In my opinion there was hardly anything left of the beer and the whisky had taken it over completely.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sayravai (4655) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 4, 2010
(Bottled) Very hazy golden with a small head. Sweetish-malty nose with vanilla and soft alcohol. Flavor is very sweet with tons of barley and alcohol warmth - but no burn. Quite full body, low carbonation, almost burning alcohol. Interesting in its own way, but probably too sweet for most. 8348
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 JorisPPattyn (7306) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - NOV 20, 2010
Modest rim, gone in seconds, leaving a yellow line around a muddy amber-brown beer. Overwhelming nose of fruity hops and aged spirit, wood, cherries, madeira, Bourbon, eggnog. Sweet-hoppy, faint bitterish, and a little wry component. Very comples, layered flavours. Again lots of fruity notes, remindful of dried apricots, dried cherries or other sugar-laden fruit, orange peel. Lipsmacking bitterness, faintly spiced liquid X-mas pudding. Very viscous to oily, alcoholburn, warming as none. exploding tastes keep lingering as supernova rememnants. Wow. That’s some Barley Wine (capitals intentional).
