Black color, some foam. Intense Aromas of peat and whisky. Also malt, licorice, choclate and dried fruits and roasted aromas.Full body & high complexity . Some immediate sweetness, but solid bitter backbone. Ok balance, but I enjoy Laipthroag. Very enjoyable

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a jet black body with a tiny layer of beige bubbles. Aroma is strong whisky and wood tones from the barrel, with dark chocolate, leather and licorice in the back. Taste is charred wood, leather, whiskey, licorice and grains with hints of toast and coffee. Smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Some soy and dark malty sweet tones in the back. The barrel aging makes this beer interesting, but I’ve had far better examples of the genre. Nice enough though.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: 2011: #4140:
Pours a pitch black beer, no head.
Smell a lot of Laphroaig; some medicinal hints, iodine/jodium, band aid, burned wood, oil, coal and something like sticky sweetness but than more like soya.
Taste is earthy, ash/coal, wood, roasted/burned wood and barleys, berries, light spicy, sticky warm liquored barley malts, tar, medium bitter, light dry, a slight hint of light berry sweet and sourness (but just a hint).
Aftertaste is iodine/medicinal with earthy spicy notes and burned wood.
No carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium to full body and a watery texture.
Strange one, it’s good but maybe they left it in the barrel to long, lost the carbo and gave away a good taste...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A thin layer of tiny brown bubbles form reluctantly on top of a pitch black body, and all the bubbles are gone within a few seconds. The aroma is intense and totally dominated by peaty whisky. These delicious scents hide the other aromas a bit too effectively, but some burnt notes and hints of coffee and alcohol shine though. The taste is moderate to heavy sweet and the very long-lasting finish is heavy bitter. Whisky and peat are almost as prominent in the flavours as in the aroma, but the burnt notes and coffee are a bit more in front. There is also unmistakable salty sweet liquorice, especially in the aftertaste. As the beer warms up I also get some sweet fruits and berries that go very well with the rough Laphroaig. Despite the distinct whisky feel of this beer, the actual alcohol flavour is very well integrated. The body is close to full, the carbonation is soft and there is some dryness in the texture that is a nice contrast to the very sweet taste. Some might claim that all the whisky makes this beer is a bit one dimensional, but what a yummy dimension!
