COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditional Irish style commercial stout (with a touch of acidic twang and at 12° Plato OG) with about 1.5 pounds of pure process cocoa/BBL added in the brewing process. Sanders Fine Chocolatiers are a fixture of the detroit community, but also some real beer fans. For that reason, they wanted the beer to taste like stout first, and chocolate second. The beer ends up coming off as a great traditional commercial stout, with some subtle and complex cocoa notes.

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Inky dark brew with small head that settles down to light froth. Aroma of burnt malts, a little chocolate, a little grass. Taste is nice - a bitter chocolate, burnt grain, coffee, and caramel at the start transitioning to a roasted coffee finish, somewhat dry, with a final dark chocolate taste lingering at the very end. Rather thin palate and lively carbonation takes away from the appeal, though - would prefer richer /softer. Overall a decent stout, with good complexity.

12oz bottle from unclerudy. Cheers, Mike! Pours a light to medium stout brown with a tan head. Nose is cocoa, milk chocolate, a hint of coffee, & slight dark fruit. Flavor is chocolate, cocoa, slight earthy coffee, and light dark fruit. Light to medium in body and lingering chocolate bar in the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle: Aroma has a nice dark chocolate aroma upfront, very roasted malts, coffee, and ever so slightly nutty. Appearance is black with a minimal tan head that linger. Taste has got a really nice chocolate forward taste. A really nice mix, then the roasted malts come their way through. Ending with a slight carbonated malt texture is quite nice. Overall, I like it. Cheers!

12 oz bottle. Wonderful chocolate smell. Poured with no head which was disappointing. I taste dark chocolate with a semi-sweet finish. Very interesting. A little too brown for a stout though. Overall pretty good!

Bottle thanks to daknole. Poured dark brown with a tan head. Aroma was chocolate, malt, and iron. Flavor was much the same, but getting a blood flavor. Body was a little thin.

Thin, weak and flavorless compared to http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/atwater-decadent/1654 which is a similar MI chocolate stout.

Maybe I just had higher hopes for this because Sanders is such a Detroit staple, but it just didn’t have any complexity beyond a sweet chocolate malt.

12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Quiet, soft chocolate aroma. Flavors carry a similar light softness to them. There’s a lightly buttery sensation, some distant roast, and a metallic or mineral edge to this beer. I don’t know a lot about this particular beer, but this is how I might imagine a macro would make a chocolate stout. Not too sweet, not to heavy on the flavor, kind of bland in the middle. Hey, at least it’s not Southern Tier Choklat, which, for some godforsaken reason is trending as one of the week’s top performers. I’d take this over that, any day.

Bottle. A very mild stout. Not much of an aroma and I didn’t get tons of chocolate in the taste. Not bad it you are not in the mood for a heavy stout.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and cereal malts. Very dark brown that sits black in the glass with a small brown head and little lace. Flavor is very sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium bodied and oily soft. Overall a decent brew but not worth remembering.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, a bit of smoke. Thin smoky flavor at first, followed up with light molasses, cocoa, roast, at times a bit of red grape. Just generally very thin.
