First brewed at Bosteels, transfered to the Champagne region of France were it is treated much like a champagne with the bottles inverted and the yeast expunged and bottle recorked.

(750ml Bottle cellared from 2005) Cloudy yellow pour, with a sharp well defined white head. Sweet aroma of yeast, malt, and banana. Sweet start to the taste but rapidly dried out to an almost champagne-like finish. The mouth-feel is the most amazing part of this beer. The carbonation is so tight it drinks like champagne, and it’s as if a million Belgium ballerinas are dancing down your tongue. This is a most wonderful beer, and i recommend it to any beer lovers who are celebrating a special occasion!

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2008 Bottle at Bishops Arms in Umeå. Having read about the pain-stakingly elaborate process behind creating this beer in MJ’s Book of Belgium Beers I had it mentally listed as a must-try. So when I saw a bottle for the first time ever in my local pub in Sweden last night I practically hurdled the bar to get to it. Served in a bucket of ice (and I mean literally a canary yellow plastic bucket of ice - mental note to myself to phone the bar manager today to talk about proper beer presentation) Deus has managed to once again redefine my understanding of what beer is. Drunk from champagne flutes it pours a sparkling pale gold with a fluffy meringue head. Once this fizzles away you’d be hard pushed to tell it apart from the wine it borrows so many qualities from. Stunning aromas of sweet white grape (reminded me a little of Duvel) and allspice. Juicy flavours of slightly sour cooking apples and pears all wrapped up in vanilla oak. The mouthfeel is sublime - each sip virtually vanishing. The drinking equivalent of trying to grasp a cloud. From the elegant bottle (let’s just skip the bucket) to the beer itself this is truly worthy of its name and reputation. If you ever get the chance leap across the bar and try it.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2009 Had a few different cuve years, and I must say that this beer really supprises you at first, and only get better as you have them. So if you had one, try it again and it will be so much better. Its very foamy, and maybe that’s the only problem. but is it a problem. better when very cold, and enjoying it in champagne flutes. Its such a fine beer, theere is a strong aroma of malts. Its a very strong beer and its alcoholic level is very present as you drink it. But its flavors are very complex yet fine, and some fruits comes out of it. its a very good product. The bottle and labble is great, 11 Euros. It is an very excelent beer.

Bottle from Parkhill. Great, complex. Aromas of citrus, dough, hay, honey. Taste is sweet, with bitter and sour notes, long length. Palate is syrupy, full bodied. Yellow, with a frothy head.

Hallucinante...

Bottle. The seller told me to leave the bottle lying down in the fridge for at least 12 hours before opening - otherwise it would gush out!! A beautiful clear yellow color with a large fizzy head that quickly disappears. Aroma is fruity with citrus, grape and very wine-like. Very lively carbonation. Sweet flavor, slightly spicy and alcoholic. Has a very nice light bitterness in the finish. This is a great welcome-drink or can subsitute champagne at any time. A must try !
