Pours black, decent head, slightly foamy when bottled, creamy when on tap. A very weak attempt at a dunkel. Extremely watered down, the toasted malt and coffee are barely perceptible. Smooth bitterness. Lacks personality.

Bottle. Black color with a nice beige head, aroma is some like sweety toasted malt. Flavor with some notes of coffee and toasted malt. Finish is bitter.

Negra Dark Ale
Draught at the brewpub

Dark brown color. Very light caramel and roasted malt, also very light dark malt sourness. More like a poor Dunkel than an Ale.

On tap at the Devassa bar in Leblon (I wish I had known about the Devassa Bar in Ipanema, it would have saved me a long trip). This dark lager is different from the other dark offerings from Brazilian brewers. This brew has none of the cloying sweetness of malzbier. It came to the table with a creamy brownish head that laced nicely down the glass. Slight roasty aroma. Fairly thinish for such a dark beer. It is just about right for the hot, tropical climate. You could drink a couple of these as they are not heavy.

Bottle. Weak aroma, not pleasant. Not much head. Very dark. Diacetyl all over, making it undrinkable in one of the bottles, and the other was in the limit of drinkability. Other than that, it is watery. I believe it may be ok on tap. I hope they improve their beers, we desperately need good beers in Brazil!!
