Negra Dark Ale
Draught at the brewpub

Dark brown color. Very light caramel and roasted malt, also very light dark malt sourness. More like a poor Dunkel than an Ale.

Bottle. Medium head with medium duration. Color is dark brown. Taste and aroma is dominated by malt.

Dark brown. The aroma is light toast and brown sugar. Somewhat thin body, light caramel. While not as sweet as the other Brazilian darks, the lack of residual sugar also works against it, gutting it of body and flavour.

Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Dark amber colour. Very malty aroma. Alittle bready but not too bad. Nice sweet flavor, short finish and a little watery, but infact a deasent overseas beer. I like it.

Dark brown, brief off-white head with no lace. Very sweet aroma, ill-defined, suggesting demerara sugar. Sweet caramel flavour, boxboard note in the finish. In the end too sweet and one-dimensional to return to. But thanks goes out to Dodo for lugging this all the way back from Brazil for me!

Tap at Devassa Ipanema. It pours very dark brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is roasted malt, dark fruit, sweaty sock and metal. The taste is very fruity - berry, prune, plum, cherry and currant, as well as some roasted malt and caramel, with a jammy fruit finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Not bad at all.

355 ml bottle. Thanks Timo A.
Pours a black colour with a beigeish head. Aroma of rye bread, dough-like yeast and some syrup. Flavour of sweet syrup, rye bread, caramel, syrup and some cardboard. Light bodied, slick mouthfeel and a malty, bread-like finish. Well done for an American Dark Lager as this is so rich despite the ABV. Other than that average.

355 ml bottle @ TimoA.
Pours deep dark red color with small quickly dissipating head. Aroma of grain, dark malts, barley, caramel and hay. Flavor of caramel, rye, grain, earth, malts and sugar. Watery, cardboardy palate.

typical but smoother Brazilian dark lager ... . Ah! Yeah. It’s just we’re putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports before they go out now. So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that’d be great. All right!

Bottle thanks to my bosses at home. Alround rating: Light roasty caramel character, overly carbonated, grassy light hay hop, dry and a bit boring.
