4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
appearance: jet black, with a short, creamy tan head and minimal lacing. aroma: blackstrap molasses, dark chocolate coffee, black licorice. taste: roasty, with lots of bitter dark chocolate up front, smoothed by molasses, vanilla, and burn wood, with an undertone of star anise or brewer’s licorice. finish: silky palate, slightly chewy, with lasting sweet dark chocolate and roast. notes: One of the better baltic porters I’ve had. Licorice notes are restrained but present enough to add character. Roast was less prominent in flavor of more smooth chocolate. Tasty.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma: coffee aroma with dank notes; probably typical of baltics but not my favorite; Appearance: pitch black with off white head that dissipates fairly quickly; little lacing; Taste: very rich and smooth with traditional porter accompanied by coffee; really nice; Palate: very heavy body with long, sweet finish (but not too sweet); Overall: porters are normally not my top style but this is a great beer; complex and flavorful while still drinkable. Would definitely get again.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dark brown coloured body with a rich, creamy glow and a nice, three centimetre tall off-white pale head. Aroma of cream, lactose, earth, roasted malt, nuts, pitted fruits and a bit of grapes. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich malt flavours up front with vanilla, figs, earth and milk all coming through, then some alcohol burn to finish off the taste. Aftertaste shows a very rich and creamy, milky flavour with vanilla, oak, nuts, earth and tons of roasted malt bitterness fills the palate. Overall, a good beer, not great, that’s acceptable for the style - very rich flavour and a deep bitterness coupled with the alcohol that adds to the complexity. Nice to try, especially on tap for very cheap. I sampled this thirty two ounce growler fill from Whole Foods in Fairfax (Fair Lakes) , Virginia on 11-February-2016 for US$5,30 sampled a day later on 12-February-2016.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. Opaque ebony with a thin disc of foam. Nose is dark bread, dark chocolate, soy and espresso. Flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, sourish prune, espresso and vanilla biscuit. Long finish has char and some faint smoke and soy that bring the richness under control quite nicely. Medium-plus body is silky smooth with a pleasing, low carbonation level.
