Aroma of dark fruit with a slight malt undertone, perfectly carbonated for the style, flavor of malt and bittersweet chocolate. Alcohol completely hidden, no bitter aftertaste. Made with lager yeast, like it’s supposed to. Really good. Finally found a beer this brewpub makes that lives up to the hype. Textbook example of a solid Baltic Porter.

GABF 2011 Media Luncheon. Dark nutty brown with a very thin head. Chocolaty java aroma, smells delicious with a soft nose of wood and deep tones of roasted dark malt. Amazing aroma. Taste had some burnt chocolate, slight coffee tones, and a burnt grain finish. Medium body but full flavor.

4oz pour at Churchkey. Pours an opaque black with a thin, creamy white head. Nose is lightly smokey, sweet, a little yeast. Flavor is malty, chalky, smokey, yeast, bread crust, light caramel. Full bodied, dry, smokey finish. Just the right amount of smoke to make this enjoyable, while also being a bit of a twist on the style.

On tap at The Brickskeller on December 9, 2010. Pours dark brown with a half-finger of head that stays around for just a bit before falling down and leaving a tan collar. The nose brings some roast as well as a bit of slightly-bitter chocolate. Additionally, as it gets warmer, I get slight notes of light coffee, almost like a black coffee with just a touch of cream added. The flavor presents some slight alcohol burn on the front end followed by some chocolate and roasted-malt character. While the background flavors of roast, malt, and chocolate are nice, this one is pushing with a bit too much alcohol right now, which is a shame because as of yet I’ve really enjoyed all the beers that Jason brings to these events. Medium body and a moderately-dry finish, I think this just needs a bit more time. Jason indicated that this and two other DB beers will be going into bottles somewhat soon, so I’m looking forward to trying this again then and maybe aging a few bottles out for a bit. On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a pretty thick tan head. Aroma of roasted and sweet malt, chocolate, and lactose. Flavor of lots of chocolate malt, some sweet malt and light roast. Chocolate-heavy with a smooth and very drinkable palate. A very enjoyable baltic porter. 8/4/8/4/14 [3.8/5]

similar to the baltic in terms of overall interest. strong in coffee that is acid and overdone. touch of cocoa and this is a bit thin and somewhat velvety. creamy from the carbonation and creamy in the head.
