3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at McGarvey's in Annapolis, MD.
Clear auburn brown with a khaki head and good lacing.
Aroma of brown sugar, mild spiciness, toasted malt, plums and red grapes
Taste of spice, toffee, plums, bananas and dates. Something about the spiciness seems a little off, but overall the taste is pretty nice.
Medium/light body and medium/low carbonization with a slightly oily mouthfeel.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: a beautiful clear dark ruby color, with a short, fizzy, quickly-dissipating tan head. Aroma: candi sugar, molasses, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, raisins, and a hint of cherries. Taste: as the aroma indicated, with a bit of oak and dark chocolate. Finish: lingering, sweet, slightly sticky, cherry notes come out a bit more. Notes: A slightly atypical dubbel in that it wasn’t particularly yeasty, or the strains they used weren’t fulsomely aggressive ones. While slightly off-style, it was tasty and rich without being sticky. Bottle from Total Wine in Fairfax, Virginia (Pickett Center).

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from tap. Pours a red-gold color with a 1 finger head that rapidly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma - dark dried fruit, something tangy. Taste - bourbon-like, dried fruits, tangy, and some caramel notes. Oily on mouth, tang is unusual, maybe from the sorghum?

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
I believe underwhelming is the word I am looking for here. Underwhelming in the sense that there is an overwhelming amount of spices that mix and mingle in here, but never really come together as a solid beer. Thick and malty. The cinnamon and nutmeg really come through and I’m not sure, but it might be a licorice flavor too.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle shared by Adam. Thanks man.
Dark mahogany auburn body with a thin beige cap. Brown bread, yeast, brown sugar. Dark fruit notes, particularly raisins and plums. Like to medium and body with moderate sweetness, just like Adam’s mom.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark body with barely any head. A lot more spice than I was expecting with a good balanced malt profile. A little on the dry side but very good overall.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle poured into shaker pint. Dark amber body with a ring of tan bubbles that disappear quickly. No lacing. Aroma is of brown sugar, raisins, figs, a touch of banana, and malt. Taste is carried by a moderate raisin sweetness with a lower level of yeasty spice and a small amount of earthy bitterness. Medium-light body, thin texture, soft carbonation, a little alcohol on the finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Transfer from BA review on 3-2-13-
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance-Pours a chestnut color with ruby highlights when held up to the light and a one finger cream colored head. The head fades quite fast to leave a thin persistent film and only a very small amount of lacing.
Smell – The smell is largely of darker fruits of cherry and fig with a caramel sweetness and hints of a yeasty aroma mixed within.
Taste – The taste begins with sweet fruit flavors of cherry, raisin, apple and fig. Upfront there is also a light roasted malt flavor. The fruity flavors grow more cherry in nature more toward the middle where the sweetness is overall increased by some flavors of brown sugar. Around the time the sweet maximizes a yeasty flavor begins coming to the tongue. With this comes both flavors of a more bitter citrus and tannin like flavor which take the taste to its end. When mixed with a rather strong alcohol flavor (strong for only a 7.5 % abv brew) it leaves a boozy and lightly bittered fruit wine like flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the average side for the strength of the beer with a carbonation level that was a bit on the lower side for a dubbel . A little more carbonation may have been better for knocking down some of the alcohol flavors as well as complementing some of the sweeter fruit flavors, but overall the feel was pretty good.
Overall – An OK dubbel, although a little to bitter and tanniny in flavor for me.
