Growler from the brewery. Pours a clear copper tinted red color with a moderate creamy offwhite head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon and other spices. The taste is also very spicy with lots of cinnamon, anise, brown sugar, molasses. Lots of fruitiness as well with raisins, cherries, plum. Thin-medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Not the brewery’s best Belgian style effort, but decent nonetheless.

Tap at Churchkey for SAVOR week. Pours a clear bourbon amber with a small head forming. No lace. Grenadine nose with butterscotch. Taste is sweeter with dark cherries, oil, sugar, bananas foster with a little bit of egg like a roti dessert in Thailand. Comes across as richer and spicy. Heavy palate. In a small dose, it is quite nice. But probably too heavy in larger samples.

Pour out of bottle, dark reddish brown pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, some spice, earth, into caramel, toffee, some slight yeasty notes. Taste is a mix of slight dark caramel, toffee, hints of spice, slight earth, grass, finishing fairly bitter, dry. Not much going on here.

Draft at Taphouse/Queensway. Black beer, a hint of licorice is the initial impression. Sweetbread and raisin carries. Pretty mellow and unremarkable as a dubbel, but exceptionally drinkable and good for brunch. (#4965, 3/17/2013)
