COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Belgian mountain-style dubbel brewed with raw sugar, dextrose, and Appalachian sorghum syrup for extra sexiness. Fermented with two Belgian yeast strains and finished with red wine yeast for dryness. Among The Gooch’s picks for one of the top 100,000 beers ever brewed.

Malty/ Hoppy aromas are very prominent. Floral happiness with citrus notes. Caramel notes as well. Dark mahogany color. Almost a chewy mouthfeel.

I like everything about this beer. Dark rich color, wonderful sweet aroma, molasses and Bourbon.

Draft at Taphouse/Queensway. Black beer, a hint of licorice is the initial impression. Sweetbread and raisin carries. Pretty mellow and unremarkable as a dubbel, but exceptionally drinkable and good for brunch. (#4965, 3/17/2013)

I don’t know how this stacks up to dubbels in the traditional style -- there is no comparison, really. This effort is sinuous and vinuous. It is tart and dry, with a very dark malt character, roast, pleasantly yeasty. I imagine this would make a killer draft, but alas I had only the bottle.

Had tried the wood aged version, this was my first crack at the regular, thanks to a pitcher at the volleyball club. Pours very, very dark brownish red, slight head that lasts well. Aroma is caramel malt, slight raisin. Flavor matches. Medium to light body, dry. Remarkably popular with the folks the table. Very slight Belgian yeast spiciness as it warmed. Nice stuff.

Deep copper pour with no head or lace. Brown sugar and dates followed by the Belgian yeasty aroma. Brown sugar, dried fruity esters with a sweet start and a dry finish. Medium body with good carbonation. nice beer

Brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of spices, dried fruits, caramel, roast, light nuts, toast, and a bit of alcohol. Taste of dark fruits, light cocoa, some roast, spices, and alcohol.

Bottle. ABV listed as 7.5%. Ruby pour with a short tan head. Aroma is dark fruit notes, toasted malt caramel and yeast. Taste is sweet malt, lots of caramel, soft spice, dark fruit, yeast and toasted grains. Body is medium with a soft, effervescent carbonation. Ends with more sweet malt notes, spices, yeast notes, caramel, toasted grains, dark bread, dark fruit (cherries), hints of cherry cough syrup and light nuttiness.
