This pale bronze beer is medium in body with intense hop flavor and aroma. Our IPA is brewed in the style of the “west coast” with robust hop character coming from American grown varieties of hops. IPA’s are amongst the most popular craft brewed beers as they have moderate strength and tons of flavor. This is not your Grandfathers beer! 5.9% alcohol by volume, 60 IBUs

Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Lemony citric and floral aroma. The flavor has citric hops, some fruity sweetness, light floral notes, and a nice lingering bitterness. Good stuff.

Tap. Clear golden with foamy white head. Fresh aroma. Nice hoppy flavor with a dry finish. First hit in mouth sweet. Something a little out of balance.

Tap at brewery. Pours clear orange with a medium, fizzy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is grain and meal malt, citrus and pine hops, and fruity esters. Flavor is malt with dominant hops, fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

On tap at the brewpub last weekend. Pours a moderate golden-copper color with a two-finger white head and some spotty lacing on the way down. Thin collar throughout. The nose says right from the start that this is going to be different from most American IPAs. It has a nice herbal and earthy quality that is bordering English-style. It almost reminds me of a wet-hop ale with the type of spice it has going on. The flavor is no different, bringing a nice herbal feel and a good bitterness to the finish. Well done. Serving type: on-tap

Growler thanks to hopscotch. Clear amber in color with white head. Fruity/florally hop aromas. The taste follows suit with grapefruit and caramel malt flavors. A little too dry and underachieving for me. I would like to see an imperial version of this ale..

Pours a light amber, with a decent bit of foam on top. The aroma was classic citrusy American hops. Tastewise, the bitterness of the hops was clearly evident without domineering everything else, especially not the balance of the juicy sweet maltiness that made the beer wickedly easy to drink.

Growler… Clear amber ale with golden highlights and a small, fizzy, white head. Decent retention. The aroma is lupulin heaven - resiny, citrusy, earthy hops galore. Medium-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The flavor furnishes heavily bitter grapefruit rind with a subtle underpinning of biscuit. Astringent, bitter, dry finish. Kudos to ygtbsm94 for sharing this rarity</B

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear orange with a white head. Aroma of hop oils, grassy hops, and citrus. Flavor of grassy and garlicky hops with a bitter finish. There is some citrus too, although it is a minor player here. Overall, very nice IPA and tasty! 8/4/8/4/14 [3.8/5]

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2012 On my wife’s birthday we visited the Devil’s Backbone in Nelson county. The IPA was excellent. The nose was of pine and citrus. The clear amber ale poured with a nice head. The ale had no after taste. The flavors were more in the upper part of your mouth. It did have an astringent taste. The restaurant was also very good. The brewery has a bottling operation and are distributing in Richmond. The IPA has a nice bitterness that stays with the ale from start to finish. This is good product worth trying. Purchased a six pack and upgraded my scores. This is well balanced IPA with a medium body and average carbonation.
