3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught at the Hyatt in DC. The beer is a clear copper color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and malt. Light to medium body with flavors of hops, citrus and grainy malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

I had never heard of this brewery or this beer prior to buying it, so I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was on sale, and it was an IPA, and that’s a good combination in my book. Fortunately, it turned out to be pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but a lot better than some of the mediocre attempts at IPAs made by some breweries in the price class I bought it in (Not sure what the regular price category is). One always fears getting one of those "marketing purposes" IPAs where they use the name and it doesn’t have nearly enough bite for the style in situations like that, but this works. It’s a west coast IPA along the lines of Sierra Nevada Torpedo or a Sam Adams Rebel IPA, a lot of cascade hops, roughly that quality or a notch above. It’s not one of the best IPAs or two I’ve ever had, those are doubles, but it is definitely in the mix as one of the better IPAs for the sale price (Which dippped it 50 cents or $1 under Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada for a 6 pack). Wouldn’t buy it for over $10, but I wouldn’t buy anything for over $10. It won’t overwhelm you with awesomeness, but don’t be afraid to grab some if the price is right or the selection is poor. A quality ale.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Eight Point I.P.A. has a thin, off-white appearance, a somewhat hazy, orange appearance, a few stray, ascending bubbles, and heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, white bread and grapefruit hop resin. Taste is of upfront bitterness, resin, grapefruit, sweet, white bread, and some sugariness. Mouthfeel is on the medium side, and Eight Point I.P.A. finishes mostly dry and pretty easy drinking. RJT

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear golden with a thick ivory head. Aroma is hoppy with a fruity hint. Hoppy flavor is equally woody and resiny, hardly bitter. Texture is smooth, if not thick, and fairly fizzy. Bag one.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clear golden brown on tap with fluffy white head that dissipates to leave good lace. Aroma is citrus catty hops with a nice caramel malt back end. Taste is nice resinous hops, bittersweet finish, biscuit malt in the middle. Good hop presence with lasting bitterness, medium carbonation, nicely done.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This had a sweet, hoppy aroma. Dry taste - resin, fresh grain, and a little salt. It has a nice look to it - a very nice ipa.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark gold body under a one finger fizzy off-white head that faded to a thin film. The nose is nicely citrusy with a nice grapefruit note over a slightly sweet caramel malt base. The flavor is a bit sweeter than I was hoping for, quite a bit caramel and toasty malt sweetness. The bitterness from the hops is really muted by the sweetness. Some decent light bitterness on the back end, but not quite enough to balance out all the malt. Light to medium bodied with fizzy prickly carbonation. Meh, not quite up my alley for the style.
