A German-style black lager. Hints of caramel and coffee blend in this light to medium dark lager. Do not let the color fool you, this beer goes down very easy. May the schwartz be with you!

Bready malt and some unfortunate metallic funk in the aroma. Sweet, bready flavor with caramel and chocolate. A little coffee bitterness in the finish. Easy drinking and pretty good.

On draft. Pours flat black with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Warm, roasty aroma. Smooth, medium mouthfeel. Roasty flavor with hints of chocolate and toffee. Very drinkable beer.

Bottle split with Pedro. Pours a deep brown, near black with medium beige head and lace. Nose is chocolate, roasted malt, bread. Medium body. Smooth and well balanced. Really good for a style I don’t typically care for.

Sweeter than I usually like my black beers, but overall a very decent beer. Lots of roasted character.

Bottle. Poured black with a medium-size light tan head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma is light roasted malt and a hint of coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, lightly sour fruit. Low to moderate sweetness and low bitterness. Nice but kind of boring. Medium, slightly creamy mouthfeel.

Pours like a big bold stout but tastes like a lager w/ just a hint of some chocolate malt. Aroma is soft & just a touch malty. Taste is slightly smoky but pretty boring after that. Palate is slightly watery but this beer is drinkable & not bad overall.

Keg @ Devils Backbone. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. Mellow red apple, berry on the nose. Mild roasted grain. Some tobacco. The flavor is similar. Brown sugar and berry. A touch of roast, burnt toast. Mild hop bitterness. Light body, fine carbonation. Good.

Basic black appearance with a large mocha colored head and good lacing. Grainy, toasted malt aroma. Smooth, rounded flavors of biscuits, dark bread and roasted malts. Sweetness held to a minimum. Hops were subtle up to the aftertaste, when some spicy, herbal hops kicked in. Medium bodied, well carbonaed mouthfeel with a lingering finish.
