Intense coffee flavors and aromas. Nice and light. A minerality to the flavor profile. Lots of astringency. But the thinness of the beer makes it taste a little like cold coffee. A bit more heft from the lager would make it softer and more enjoyable on the palate.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle with a 22 Sept. 2014 date stamp.
Pours clear, dark red-brown with a decent head, but the head soon reduces to a ring. True to style, this is a very well crafted Schwarzbier. Plenty of sweet toffee in the aroma; caramel, coffee and black bread in the flavor. Lightly sweet.
O: Nearly as good as Sprecher’s, this is highly recommended for style

Points off for not being smoky enough. No bacon. Otherwise a truly good beer. Sweet porter-like. Chocolate, coffee and dark fruits. Nice effort.

Dark brown, near black, body with a half inch of khaki head. Chocolate, nutty, earthy, aroma. Chocolate and caramel malt with a hint of yeast and afterthoughts of coffee. Dark and rich. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation and a mild hop note in the back end. Solid.

12 ounce bottle from Nate as a Christmas mixer. Black with a tan head. I get ash and chocolate in the aroma with a little roast. The flavor is earthy with that roast and chocolate. The ash, too. A nice smooth easy drinking beer.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body under a small fizzy light brown head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is pretty nice, roasty and slightly sweet with licorice and coffee. The flavor is just lightly sweet with some burnt caramel, licorice, coffee, and a light bitterness on the finish. Light to medium bodied with a light cling and soft gentle carbonation. Pretty nice beer, I enjoyed this one.

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a near black with a beige head of foam that fizzles out quickly. The aroma has notes of dark roast and burnt toffee. The taste is roasty and mostly roast and caramel. I get a touch of sweetness in the finish. Higher carbonation. Medium body.
