Bottle shared by Brian. Poured a clear black color with an average frothy tan head that was mostly lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate toasted dark malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Drinkable brew.

Bottle courtesy of Steve-O (thanks Steve) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, light smoke and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of roasted malt, smoke, light cocoa and light earthiness with a crisp lingering roasty earthy finish.

Bottle thanks to Ken. It pours dark brown with a small light tan he’d. The nose is toasty, cocoa, cardboard, cheap chocolate and light meatiness. The taste is light, toasty, earthy roast, cocoa, pepper, wishy-washy and earth with a short, dry finish. Light body and moderate carbonation. A bit weak. So-so.

Tap at Capital Ale House, Richmond, VA. Pours black with a small, fizzy and bubbly tan head, short retention with spotty lacing. Aroma is dark malt (chocolate, light roast, coffee), light spicy hops, and a clean lager character. Flavor is malt dominant with light malt and hop bitterness and a clean, dry finish. Light body and warmth, medium carbonation.

Very fresh growler from the brewpub. Pours a hazy brown color with a red-orange tinge. Medium head with good head retention and lacing. Aroma is slightly roasted malts with berry like fruit notes, light tobacco, caramel and toast and very faint nuttiness. Taste is roasted malts, nuts, caramel and something lightly milky. Mildly hoppy finish. Medium bodied.
