Date: 7/2/2009 Source:Other Sample courtesy of dkachur. Caramel with a light rustiness and hints of smoke in aroma. Almost opaque very dark brown with small tan head. Light body and mouth feel. Caramel backbone with vanilla and a touch of roast, vanilla and wood y astringency. Finish is dry and moderately bitter with wood coming through. PDG…pretty damn good.

Draft. Creamy tan head atop cola-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, roast. Taste is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate/syrup, some earthy, light roast. Light-medium body, low carbonation.

Handbottle from growler courtesy of dkachur at the 8th Richmond Gathering.. Black with reddish highlights and an aroma of coffee, malt and chocolate. Flavor had a bit of spice on the finish.

Handbottle from growler courtesy of dkachur at the 8th Richmond Gathering. Dark, opaque brown. Nose is coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is more roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and light hops. Body is medium and creamy with soft carbonation. Ends with more choco notes, bitter coffee and roasted malt. Rather run-of-the-mill for a porter but still tasty.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2010 On tap at the brewpub on 07/31/2010. Dark black body with a creamy light brown head. Sweet roast, caramel, molasses and chocolate aroma. Big chocolate and molasses flavor with a dry roast bitter note. Black body with ruby highlights and a small foamy light brown head. Sweet roast and chocolate aroma with a touch of pepper. Sweet chocolate, roast and light pepper flavor with a bit of light bitterness lingering behind. Medium body with moderately low carbonation. 6/4/7/3/13 - 3.3

Deep brown. Aroma coffee, a bit roasty, hint of coffee. Flavor matches, very nice roasty coffee thing going on, some herbal hops faintly on the finish. Nice.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2009 Fresh growler from the brewery. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium tan head. Fair head retention and good lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roast, slight coffee and a leafy hop note. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate and a leafy hop finish. Thin-medium bodied.
