Our Scottish Wee-Heavy ale aged on wood used by Belmont Farm Distillery. Hints of whisky, oak and vanilla blend with the rich maltiness of this beer. Extremely limited.

a pretty solid wee heavy, with the barrel aging really accenting the flavors.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark malts with nutty and toffee and caramel notes, some oak and vanilla, light hints of dark fruits, and some light whiskey. Flavor the same with a decent blend. Average to smoother texture. Not a bad beer at all.

22oz bottle pours a clear, dark caramel amber with some cloudy, white head. Nose has a ton of fresh wood shavings, minty, caramel, butterscotch. Flavor has a ton of witch hazel, wood shavings, caramel, butterscotch, some candy. Full, herbal finish.

Not sure how fair of a rating I can give here as this is a mixture of too elements I don’t usually cotton to much. That being said, overbarrelling works with scotch ales in a way it wouldn’t elsewhere. But the wood dominates this to the extent that I have splinters on my tongue after drinking it. Very bitter, quite boozy. Pours mahogany with OK head and lacing. Tap at scion.

Poured dark from big bottle, hints of vanilla but vaguely medicinal. Not a huge upgrade over regular kilt flasher

Appearance: deep clear ruddy purplish garnet, with a thin, almost nonexistent bubbly white head. Aroma: toffee, molasses, brown sugar, cherry, raisin. Taste: light molasses, hint of brown sugar, some brown bread and cherry, raisin, a bit of wood, and some clove. Finish: lingering sweetness, a bit of yeast, and a hint of booze. Notes: Is this a scotch ale? Maybe my palate was off, but this felt much more like a filtered dubbel than a scotch ale. Even so, it was a tasty ale. Bottle from Westover Market in Arlington, Virginia.

Bottle. Dark amber to near copper pour with a medium, foamy tan head. Aroma is boozy with lots of oak, caramel, malt notes and candy. Taste is big booze with wet , fresh cut oak, caramel, dark bread, sweet malt, toffee notes, light vanilla and soft peat notes. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation and soft alcohol warmth. Ends with more caramel, vanilla notes, big oak, toffee, dark bread, candy, booze and light toffee.

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a tan head with lacing. Subtle scent of vanilla and caramel malts. Tastes of caramel, vanilla, booze, and oak. More boozy version of Kilt Flasher.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2015 Pours brown with a ruby tint and a tan head. Sweet malty aroma with brown sugar, vanilla, whisky & oak. Flavor is sweet caramel malt with cocoa and vanilla, finishing with toffee, a woody oak flavor and whisky booziness. As this beer warms it becomes less sweet and the oak flavor really blooms.

Oak and some vanilla, but mostly the red ale characteristics of the kilt-flasher. Consistent on the palate from first taste to the long finish. Nice citrus notes of orange peel stand out on the finish.
