Underwhelming sample in Colorado. I like me some sunshine, but not in my beer...
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ALLOVATE (2101) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - MAY 6, 2013
Pours a sparkling fiery copper with little evident carbonation and a shortlived, loose pad of foam. Heavily piney, herbaceous and resinous hops are first off the mark on the nose, but this wanes to reveal hints of caramel, sticky marmalade and fresh baked Anzac biscuits. Starts off sweet on the palate; Anzac biscuits and marmalade with a bready, toasted malt backbone and hint of rose musk. Much more reserved than anticipated. Very little of the added rye to mention. Bitterness just apexes the malt; the finish floral, grassy and dry with a camphorous depth. Body is on the lighter side with low carbonation. Drinks easily enough but just didn’t grip me as I had hoped. Good, but not great! (16fl.Oz. can, no date stamp, Cellarbrations Carlisle)
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Davros (1481) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 3, 2013
Pours copper with a large head.
Nose shows grassy, piny hops along with faint apple characters. Some spicy rye too.
Pretty aggressive flavours. Lots of grapefruit and pine but little else to liven things ups. Not much malt, but some toasty, spicy rye. Sharp metallic finish.
Too much carbonation.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rangi (381) - NEW ZEALAND - APR 21, 2013
Poors a syrupy hazy light brown with nice white head that sticks around. Sickly and syrupy this IPA went down well on the autumn day out in the beer garden. Not a strong over the top IPA in aroma/flavour or bitterness but subtle. Think syrupy sums this one up for me.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hawthorne00 (1858) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 14, 2013
Can. Clear amber with a large off-white head that laces well. Aroma has sourish rye bread, caramel, grass. Never really loved the smell of rye. Smooth, medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Bready with lots of rye, grass, pepper. Some orange and grapefruit that didn’t quite fit for me. Firm bitterness. Distinctive and characterful.
