COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We weren’t trying to be revolutionary in 2002, we just wanted to brew an interesting beer style using extra ingredients we had on hand. The resulting contribution to craft beer’s renaissance, was this rye-centric India Pale Ale. At 85 IBUs, California Sunshine Rye IPA is exceptionally well-balanced with assertive hop bitterness, a toasty, bready malt mouthfeel, and a grassy, dry finish. Enjoy our uniquely original re-imagining of a traditional English style IPA while pondering being the craft beer polymath you surely are. RyeIPA@DevilsCanyon.com

On tap at Bistro DIPA Fest poured a hazy orange amber with a small quickly disapating off white head. Aromas of rye, carmel, earthiness, light pine and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of rte, carmel, light earthiness and light citrus with a smooth moderatly bitter finish.

Pours dark orange with a pillowy head of foam. Initial aroma is of sawdust but that fades to a more uncut tree nose. Bitterness plays second fiddle to an aggressive alcohol note that I do not expect from a 7.1 beer. Aftertaste is fine and as it warms I am getting some orange notes too.

"Sample Can." Pours a hazy orange color with a decent lacing head. Very tart aroma with some nice hops in there as well. Light, hoppy taste with some solid tanginess in there as well. Very crisp as well. Delightful, and coming from a can very impressed.

Pours a deep orangish brown with a medium white head. Immediate aroma is floral and slightly sweet, with bready malt odors. Taste is similar. Alchohol notes are hidden well, the immediate taste is floral, followed by a sweetness as the hops kick in, and finished with bitterness. All in all a decent, not great, IPA (by the way, per prior review, the bottle does not note this as a double, and calls it a rye IPA).

Bomber listed at 7.1% ABV and 85 IBUs from Whole Foods in Folsom, CA. Label only claims to be an IPA (rye centric IPA). Pours copper with a 2.5 finger creamy off-white head. Aroma has that spicy rye aspect. Full bodied. Creamy carbonation. Flavor is definitely rye with a lot of fruit, floral and probably grapefruit rind for hop. This is quite a tasty ale. The carb backbone is clearly present to the finish, and nicely supports all the hop. In the end there’s rye and a bitter hop burn. Excellent.

Draft. Listed as California Rye IPA @ 7.1%. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Sweet caramel and light pine aroma. Pine and caramel flavor with grapefruit and earth. Medium bodied. Pine and caramel lingers with earth and grapefruit.
